The guest speaker on the program was Mr. Fred Campbell, Manager, Ontario Public Stockyards, Toronto. The topic for Mr. Campbell's address was "The International Trade Impact on Beef". In his tive marketing system is the best means of establish- ing price of it is not affected by large numbers of cattle coming into the country. Mr. Campbell indicated that there are large supplies of beef in the world beef producing countries, with the result that world beef prices are in a depressed condifion. In. discussing the marketing of cattle on the dressed weight basis, it was noted that problems did exist in the identification. 'of the carcass throughout the marketing system, and in particular, at the packing plant where the identification tag must be removed from the ear and placed on the carcass. : Also, speaking on the program was Mr. Gus Lask, Director of the Ontario Cattlemen's Association. Mr. Lask reported on the- activities 'of the Association during thé past year, and made reference to such items as the Provincial Stabilization Bill, protection for producers from buyers who go into bankruptcy, allotment of funds for research, and promotion which included an exhibit at the 1976 International Plowing Match. Other promotional activities included beef seminars for consumers in Toronto and Whitby. In the discussion period which followed, it was felt that prompt payment for beef at all levels of the. industry would overcome some of the problems in the marketing system, and particularly in cases of bankruptcy. An important item on the agenda this year was the adoption of a new constitution. One of the provisions of the constitution was to change the name of the organization from the Ontario County Beef Improve- ment Association to the Ontario County Cattlemen's Association. _ Officers and directors of the Ontario County Cattle- 'men's Association for 1977 are as follows: "President - Glen Squire, RR 1, Pickering; 1st Vice President - Clare Bagshaw, RR 2, Sunderland; 2nd Vice-President - Ron Deeth, RR 2 Port Perry; Secretary-Treasurer - H.
