than a drum", ~ described the Pee Wee PORT PERRY Second period dedicit 3-0 , Legionaires edge Inbridge 5-4 By Bob Storry The oft quoted cliche "hotter than a pistol; tighter certainly Legionaires play as they nipped Uxbridge 5 to 4 Fri- day night in the first game of the playoffs. Port were uptight for the first period and hotter than a pistol in the third period. The Legionaires practical- ly gift wrapped the first two goals as they handed Ux- bridge the puck right in front of their own net and said, "here, have a goal!" Uxbridge accepted their generosity and promptly took a 2 to 0 lead by the 1:12 mark in the first period. Early in the second period, Till made it 3 to 0 as he beat Lovering on the short side. After this third goal against them, Port started to show signs of life. boys swallowed their butter- flies, shed their playoff jitters and as the second period progressed the Legionaires commanded their share of the play but were unable to beat Rise- The SportsiLand brough in the Uxbridge net. Port went to the dressing room at the end of the second period down 3 to 0. Boy, oh boy! . the third period was something else. Port came out after the break, completely relaxed and determined to get back into the game. They were - determined to show their ~fans that they were a much better hockey team than they had shown so far in the game. Sg The fuse that lit the fire came at the 1:04 mark when - Blayone shot a rink wide lead pass to A. Jones who caught up with it deep in the Uxbridge Zone and prompt- ly relayed it across the goal mouth, Storry timed his arrival at the corner of the net just in time to flip the puck into the net. This goal seemed to unsettle Rise- brough in the net and before Uxbridge knew what hit them, Port had takena 4to 3 lead. Three quick line changes, and bang! bang! bang! three quick goals. Uxbridge - came "back minutes later to - tie the game at four apiece. Port still had the momentum and there was no way Uxbridge were going to put out the fire. Risebrough had to make a clutch save on Storry in the final seconds of regulation time to send the game into overtime. Port's lines just kept com- ing at Uxbridge -in waves during the overtime period and at the 1:09 mark A. - Jones scored the winning goal on passes from Storry and Horton. A super team effort by the "Legionaires "enabled them to control the play and keep Uxbridge hemmed in their own end for the better part of the over- "time period and preserved an exciting come from behind victory. Saturday at the Brooklin arena, Port had to settle for a two all tie against Brooklin -Whitby Pee Wees. Brook- lin-Whitby scored in the first period and held the one goal lead through to the end of the second period. Port tied the game early in the third period when Horton scored unassisted. Brooklin-Whitby again took the lead as Kevin Mask was credited with his second goal of the game at the 2:50 mark when he glanced one in off our defenceman's leg. Port came back to earn the two- all tie as Storry won the faceoff getting the puck back to Horton who slam- med it in for his second goal .of the game. Peter Christie who went all the way in the nets for Port played a solid game, having little chance on the two goals that beat him.
