J w 4 b v i} > © . ¢ A Victories for Bantams in Play-off games The Beare Motor Bantam boys made it 2 in a row last Sunday in Uxbridge . by beating the home team 7-3. The first game was in Port and Port won that one 5-2. Little Hillis Wilbur. and Shultzie Burnett were the big scorers in this game with both picking up 3 point games. . Port got off to a bad star with Uxbridge scoring the first goal at the 1:05 mark of the first period. It.was short lived though - for five minutes later as Chas. Brown held the puck in the Uxbridge zone and passed it to Dougy Potts - Pottsy then fired it to Little- Hillis Wil- bur in front of the net and he picked the top right-hand corner. Shultzie Burnett made it 2-1 from Greg Kroonenberg and Hal Storry to round off -the first period scoring. The second period was scoreless as the Uxbridge goaltender had to be pretty sharp in net with Port buzzing around the goal like bees attacking honey. Chas. Brown rifled one - from the point early in the third to make it 3-1. Shultzie Burnett picked up the assist. Uxbridge scored 2 minutes later to make it 3-2. They started pressing Port in their own end after that goal and Dave Myers had to be sharp in goal. "Finally though, Little Hillis Wilbur made a good pas to Scott Heard in front of the net were he was alone. Now this was the first playoff game for the Rookie and you could tell he was a bit nervous, but he played this one like a veteran of 10 years. After receiving the pass with no one around him, he didnt fire it blindly, .but waited for the right moment and whistled it up on the top left hand side of the net. Shultzie Burnett got the insurance goal by poking it under the flopping .goaltender at the 13:00 minute mark of the third period. Little Hillis Wilbur and Turkey Tobin picked up the assists. -- First star of the game went to the Uxbridge goal- tender who made several excellent saves. Little Hillis Wilbur got the second star and Shultzie - Burnett picked up the third. On Sunday, Feb. 6th, Port travelled to Uxbridge to try and make it 2-0 and they were successful winning, 7-3 Davey Alexander had a 4 point game and was the standout player with his offensive and defensive playing. Davey got the team going, scoring just 30 seconds into the game. Dougy Potts and Little Hillis Wilbur -got -the assists. Turkey Tobin made it 2-0 when he did an end to end rush around the net and into the left-hand corner. Beans Menzies and Boo Jobb picked up the assists. Uxbridge came back to tie it up 2-2 but they were never in the game again. * Hal Storry rifled one from the point, assisted by Beans Menzies. Then Little Hillis Wilbur made it 4-2, assisted by Dougy Potts and Davey Alexander. Chas. Brown rifled one from the point at the 4:09 mark of the second period, - with Davey Alex- ander picking up the assist. Greg Kroonenberg who played a standout game, made it 6-2 with assists going to Turkey Tobin and Beans Menzies. Uxbridge and Port both had a goal in the third. Little Hillis Wilbur with Ports goal, assists going to Davey - Alexander and Wayne P. Robinson. The three stars were Dave Alex- ander, Beans Menzies and Little Hillis Wilbur, \. Port plays Uxbridge back home on Wed. Feb. 9th at 9 p.m. So come on down and support your favourite team. Big wins for PeeWee 2 Stones's Real Estate Pee Wee's played the team from Pickering in the 'second game of the round robin playoffs on January 31 at home and came up with an impressive win. Port completely domin- ated the game but it wasn't until the 5:17 mark of the second period when the local - gang scored their first goal. The first goal went to Phil Bower assisted by Simon Brierly and Alan Ferguson. At the 14:06 mark of the same period Kevin Long scored unassisted to make the score two to nothing for the local gang and close the scoring for the second 'period. Kevin Long opened the scoring in the second period at the 11:12 mark assisted by Jim Daniels. Thirty seconds later, Paul Sytsma scored assisted by Kevin Long and Jamie Lane to make the score four to nothing for Stones. Brierley scored unassisted at the 12:04 mark and at the 13;24 mark Kevin Long scored his third goal of the game assisted by Simon Brierly to close out the scor- ing for the game and make the final score six to nothing for Stones. Peter Christie played the entire game in the nets to come up with the shutout. Top point getters in the game were Kevin Long with three goals and one assist and Simon Brierly with one goal and two assists.
