Most of the parents attending, with the exception of the teachers, were pretty green on the subject of the metric system but by tke time the meeting was finished we had all received a surpris- ing amount of knowledge in regards to this future system of measurement. I, as well as everyone else, thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. My only regret was that there was only such a scant few. present from Greenbank. Come on Greenbank pull up your socks and let's see you all out at the next meeting. * Date to be announced later." Birthday greetings go out to Paul Wylie, Bruce Mal- colm and Keith Puckrin who all added another year during this past week. - At our U.C.W. meeting on _ Wednesday, evening plans were discussed in regards to fund-raising ideas to aid in our Kitchen and Base- ment Renovation program. Something to keep in mind is the Variety Supper which will be held on Wednesday, April 6. All the ladies will be asked to bring a. casser- ole and dessert, but more on that later. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wana- maker and family of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs Bilt Wanamaker and Sara of Prince Albert and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Wanamaker and family were all home with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wana- maker for dinner on Sunday night. Welcome homé to Mr. and Mrs. Ken Short who have recently spent a few weeks. in Florida. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Keith Puckrin and boys and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Puckrin and family enjoyed having dinner with Mr, and Mrs. Doug Gale of Oro Station. Postponed due to weather conditions from the week previous, 65 people were present for the dinner, reports and social time. All reports from the direc- tors indicated increased interest in all sections and pride in the success of the fair. Again the Black and White Show (Holstein) was outstanding. It was noted that the "Miss Port Perry Fair" con- test and the "Children's Parade" were innovations of -mittee report. 1976, and will again be plan- ned for in 1977. Mr. Lawrence said: that many thousands of dollars have been spent so far in an effort to promote the special day. How successful has it "I don't think there's any great amount of awareness as yet," said Mr. Lawrence. "I think it's going to take a few years yet." What will make the differ- ence, thinks Jim, is if the federal government goes ahead with plans to make it a national holiday. '"That's the bogst we need," said Mr. Lawrence. Ronald Deeth, although Ralph expressing optimism for . bigger and better fairs in future years, warned that the Board might be faced with re-location of the fair if a suitably long lease cannot be negotiated with the municipal council of Scugug. Expansion and future capital expenditures will depend on these decisions. Mr. Deeth noted that the Christie Building is a great asset. Appreciation for this accomodation was also voiced earlier in a report given by J. DenBoer, Direc- tor of the Fruit and' Veget- able section. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Parrot presented slides and commentary of the 1976 Port Perry Fair and shared their experiences and pictures of a trip to the Eastern provin- ces to round out the evening.
