Mrs. Lloyd Payne visited with Mrs. Grace Taylor one day last week. On March 20 we are planning a very special informal Church service at Utica church at 7:30 p.m. Mike and Cathy Ward will be in charge. There will be lots of singing and music. Mark this on your calendar. Don't forget to mark April 11 also. as that is the even- ing Dofasco Choir will pre- sent their program. Mrs. D. Asling, Mrs. H. Ashton and Mrs. E. Taylor called on Mrs. Brady and daughter on Thursday. Dwayne Shaw of Oshawa spent the week-end with Scott Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Irwin, Mark and Timm and their great grand- mother, Mrs. W.0. Simpson of Uxbridge, were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson. Congratulations to Mr, and Mrs. Elmer Wilson on the safe arrival of a wee granddaughter born to Rev. Floyd and Mrs. Wilson of Oshawa on Feb, 18, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ashton of Sonya have a little son who arrived Sun. Feb. 20. A grandson for Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. Our best wishes for these newest Canadian citizens. Most families were repre- sented at the family skating party on Sunday afternoon about fifty returned to Epsom church for cocoa and hotdogs. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Sunday was the day for our congregational meeting .at church. Reports of the years work were printed and received by all, who then could ask any question which might arise. The Rev. Archie Scott was in charge." Manchester 4-H by Leanne Kerr 4-H started up in full swing in Manchester. On Monday the 14th of Febru- ary our old members plus two new members, Joanne Vandervoort and Martha gathered at Mrs. John Kingstone's home to start our new 4-H club unit, For Knits Only. We opened with the 4-H pledge and following that _ elected our officers, Donna Kerry being the president. We selected our name for this unit, The Manchester Knit Wits, by a unanimous election. We discussed what is a knit and had a short quiz on knit fabrics. ~All the members then got---- out the measuring tapes and took body measurements. Aext week we'll be sewing a'knit skirt, top or whatever turns us on. At 9 p.m. we closed the meeting. Don Sutton guest speaker The Durham North Assoc- iation for Children with Learning Disabilities were pleased to have Mr, Don Sutton, Superintendent of Program, as guest speaker at a recent meeting of the association. Mr. Sutton brought with him Mr. Bruce Walker, Superintendent of Development and Academic Services, Mr. Jack Gardner, Principal of Durham Region Treatment Schools and Mr. Jim Williams, Special Edu- cation Co-Ordinator for Durham in order to answer . direct questions from our group. Mr. Sutton spoke of the inner workings of his Board and gave insight into how to get help for our children within the school system. Mr. Gardner and Mr. Wil- liams went into detail on assessments, follow-up prog- rams etc. Mr. Walker inter- jected when necessary and gave us the benefit of his experience. When we stopp- ed for coffee midway through the evening all the men tried to speak with everyone present. Then the floor was open for questions. We have been assured that many exciting things are happening in our schools for our learnind disabled child- ren and as a group we felt most encouraged. The Durham Board of Education is co-operating with our Association in organizing a Gross Motor Program held each Friday evening, 7:30 - 8:30 at St. John's School, Uxbridge.
