10-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 9, 1977 Active week at Cartwright High by Anne Kristensen Fifty-seven school days left (out of a total 178)!!!. Belive it or not the year is just about over. It seems if we make it through the March break and the mid- - April snow storm it will be down hill all the way. Friday night a crowd of students went- out to Oshawa Little Theatre to see the drama "A Man For __All Seasons". To follow it, "it needed your full concen.' ~ public speaking contest on tration. So for these who were either napping or gig- gling you were definitely confused for at least a couple of scenes with the exception of the last (Thomas More got his head severed from his shoulders. Who could miss it!) That same day the boy's curling team went to the L.0.S.S.A. curling bonspiel. They lost the first game and won the next two, placing third overall. Unfortunately only the first place winners go on the C.0.S.S.A. All in all they played well. The skip was Paul Larmer, vice- skip was Colin Asselstine, second was Doug Larmer and Jack Gunter lead. The girls had their meet two weeks ago. They won the first two games and then played off against Port Perry in the finals to de- termine who would go to C.0.S.S.A. The Port Perry team came out on top. Paul Godfrey is booked for March 11 at the Rec. Centre. 'He will be the disc jockey for our Graffitti Dance. The attire, for those who planned to dress up and get slicked back, is the look of the late 50's. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes and also on the agenda is a bubble blowing contest. So if you have such a hidden talent, a smooth maneuvering tongue and lots of hot air, here is your big chance! The Legion held their Sunday. In the junior Division Angela Reeder placed second with Caroline Carnaghan coming a close third. © Louise VanCamp took first place in the senior division and Barry Van- Camp came in third. Congratulations. Four out of six places is not bad!! At least it shows one things - Cartwright CAN talk!!! As the weeks roll on, opening night for our 3-one act plays moves closer. The actors and actresses "are trying out their newly aquired Clarke Gable or Elizabeth Taylor styles in hopes of adding to their stage talent. Everyone is working hard and it should prove to be a night of good _ quality entertainment. The performances will be runn- ing too straight evenings - March 17th and 18th. Everyone is invited. All considering it was a diversified week and look- ing into the future big plans will still be arising. nd sh iN Sp Ee RY VION Hid News of interest from Utica and area by Mrs. Jack Crosier Service will be held in: Epsom United Church on Sunday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. in charge of Mr. Mike Ward.
