PORT @ PERRY STAR Darrin Jobb The Beare Motor Bantam boys won the quarter-finals in their bid for the 1977 All Ontario Championship last Tues. March 1st. Port invaded the Oak Ridges Memorial centre against the home team. The Bantam boys were leading at this time 2 'games to Ls ooked for awhile like Oak Ridges might take it as they opened up with a two goal lead and later increas- ed it to 4-2. After the second period both teams took a rest and coach Doug Scott used the rest wisely to analyse Ports work and tell them what they were doing wrong. It obviously worked as Port ended up winning 6-4. Scoring for Port were Shultzie Burnett with 4 goals and Mike T. Tobin House League NOVICE On the first game Sports- land defeated Kinsmen 4-2. Scoring for Sportsland was Tim Cannon getting 2 goals, Doug Densty and Joe Forder each getting 1 goal. Densty and Raymond Daniels each picked up 1 assist. Scoring for Kinsmen was Brad McEneney and Robert Day each getting unassisted goals. In the second game Emiels Place tied Scugog Realty 1-1. Picking up the goals for Scugog was Paul Cooper assisted by Jay Bower. Scoring for Emiels Place was Sean Fisher from Ron Crawford. and Darrin B. Jobb with 1 each. Assists went to Chas. Brown and - Davey Alexander with 3 each, Beans Menzies, Shultzie Burnett and Darrin Jobb with one each. Oak Ridges travelled back to Port on Friday the 4th of March for the final game of the series. This "was a dull game with slow ice. Oak Ridges again had the first goal of the game but it was the only one they had as Port came back with five unanswered goals for the final score of 5-1. Scoring for Port were Shultzie Burnett with 3 goals which gives him 90 for the season. Chas. Brown and Dougy Potts had the others. ~ Assists went to Chas. Brown and Darrin B. Jobb with 2 each, Mike T. "Tobin and" 'Béans Menzies with singles, Port was minus Hal B. Storry on the defense with a leg injury. But Hal is Bantams advance to semi-finals expected to be back in uni- form for the next series. The next series will be against either Bancroft (they are leading the series 2-0) or Brighton. So keep watch in the paper and on the bulletin board in the arena for later dates. Legionaires defeat Schomberg By Clare Potts In the second game of the Ontario quarter final series played in Port Perry, March 2nd, the Port Perry Legion Pee Wee team defeated Schomberg 14-2. A solid team effort-by- the Legion- aires was just too much for the Schomberg team to handle on this occasion. Schomberg opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Dion at 2:33, assisted by Matysek and Loveridge. From this point on the period belonged to Port. Henricks scored his first of a three goal effort at 2:43 assisted by Burnett and Young. Burnett scored at 2:55 assists going to Hen- ricks and Fewer. Jones scored one of his three goals at 4:52 with assist from Storry. Storry scored at 5:04 assisted by Tremblay. Henricks second goal came at 5:49 assisted by Burnett. Crowell scored at 7:37 assis- ted by Russell Jones whom rumour has it plays tight end for the Rams in the off season. Horton closed the scoring at the 10:39 mark of the period, assisted by Storry The second period saw Young put Port quickly on the scoreboard at the 1:16 mark assisted by Tremblay. The oldtimer Jones scored his second goal of the con- test at 4:12 with assists from Horton and Storry. Horton scored at 11:37 assisted by Jones. (continued on page 19) Rod & Gun Club Host rifle shoot-out by Charles Harper The Port Perry Rod and Gun Club's Rifle team host- ed a rifle competition with the Oshawa Marksman Rifle team and came out second best by a slim margin of 35 points, They are confident they will reverse these results on their return match at Oshawa on April 1. There is also a match scheduled on April 7 at the Port Perry range with the York Rifle Club. The CTC Bantams were eliminated from playoff action this last week on March 2, 1977, an action packed game ended in a 5-5 draw with Uxbridge.
