EJ ow & 4 N Stone's Real Estate Pee Wees opened the 'best 3 out of 5 quarter-finals against Bolton at Home on March 2 and came up flat and lost by the score of 3 to 1. 'Stones' were never in the contest until the last Ja of the third period and that proved to be too late. Bolton opened the scoring in the first - period at the 3:10 mark and they added to that at the 12:58 mark. Bolton scored the only goal in the second period at the 10:13 mark to make the score 3 to zip for Bolton. Port started out the third period stronger but just couldn't put it together until the 11:20 mark when Phil Bower scored Ports only goal assisted by Kevin Long and Simon Brierly. On March 4, Stones' tra- velled to Bolton for the sec- ond game of the series and they played better hockey with the exception of the second period when they had a severe let down, and this . cost 'them the game. The first period was scoreless with both teams making ex- cellent plays with both net- minders making sensational saves. In the disastrous second period Bolton scored ' two unanswered goals to give them the momentum. Just when things were all in favour of Port, Bolton scor- ed to give them a two goal advantage again, With just under two minutes to go in ...the.game the Port goal- tender was pulled. for an extra attacker and with 1:02 to go, Simon Brierly scored assisted by Paul Sytsma and Todd Menzies, to close the gap to one goal. With the goaltender still out, Port swarmed all around the Bol- ton goal but just couldn't put the puck in the net. Final score 3 to 2 for Bolton and an edge in playoffs by a 2 to 0 count. * On March 5, Stones travel- led back to Bolton for the third game and were com- pletely dominated by the Bolton team. The final score was 7 to 0 for Bolton. This eliminated Stones from further play for this year. The Port Perry team had to win this game to stay alive but unfortunately they were "eliminated by a 32 score, The first period was a close checking affair as both teams had some good chances to score. But it was Uxbridge who got the only goal of the period with less than a minute to go before the bell. The .second period was every bit as close as the first. Again both teams were forechecking very well but neither team could manage to score a goal. Port Perry went to the dressingroom after two periods of hockey down 1-0 and facing elimination. Coach Bob Lee decided to juggle his lines around in this game and it paid off in the third period as the Port Perry team came up with a fine effort. ~ Jeff Johnstone tied the game up for Port after taking a pass from Kevin Ferguson. Jeff skat- ed right in on the Uxbridge net and fired one" home. .. Halfway through the third period Port Perry took a - 2-1lead. Mike Pratt flipped one home from close range after Robbie Tobin and Kevin Fowler had done some nice work to\keep the puck in the Uxbridge end of the rink. ° With less than five min- utes to go in the game Scott Harper tied the game for Uxbridge. And with just three . minutes . left Shane Redshaw 'won it for Ux- bridge as he went end to end to score. Paul Bateman went the distance in net for Port Perry-and he came up with another great effort. In fact the entire Port Perry Atom team had play- ed some of their best hockey in this series, House League Glen Vallie 3 - Bolton 2 Al Tran led the way for Glen. Vallie with two goals and an assist with Arnold Bell getting a goal and two assists, got an assist. Scott McHugh and Paul Rioual replied for Bolton with Dwayne Bryant and Brad Fulford assisting. Wes Lane 1 - Frank 1 Billy Foote scored for Wes Lane with Steve Atchi- son and Tim Bouwmeester assisting. Robert Hoogaveen replied "for Frank with Mark Penny assisting. Darryl Luke also: especially in Uxbridge.They gave their best against a fine Uxbridge team only to come up a little short. The Atoms now have a few tournaments to look for- ward to starting this Satur- day with the Uxbridge Atom Tournament. Port Perry 'had their share of good scoring oppor-- tunities in this game but they just could not seem to finish off their plays. Bobcats lead series by 2 games -by Scott Wilbur... On Thursday, March 3, the Murray Williams Bob- cats Midget 2 opened the series against Uxbridge for . the Lakeshore trophy. This is a best 3 out of 5 series. The Bobcats took the first encounter 4-3. Uxbridge opened the scor- ing but Port came- back quickly as Carey Fellows... scored assisted by Scott Wilbur. Uxbridge took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period but this didn't last long as the 'Cats came back with' 3 unanswered goals. Scott Wilbur unassisted, Rick Hope assisted by Carey Fellows and Dave Canning assisted by Hope and Fellows made. the score ..+2.."... ..... 4 Uxbridge scored oi.ce more to make the final score 4-3. Jim Treen played a steady game in the nets for Port.
