By Bob Storry In the mid 1950's the Port Perry Minor Hockey Assoc- iation organized its first Pee Wee All Star team for 0.M.H.A. competition. - Since that time a lot of have represented the PPMHA and the community These teams have all striv- ed to reach the summit of their hopes, an 0.M.H.A. All Ontario championship. Unfortunately, none of our PeeWee teams were able'to put it all to-gether at the right time, or whatever. The furthest point of ad- vancement in the playdowns was the semi-finals. The above is all quite true when you speak in past tense. When you switch to present tense, the 1976-77 season, well, that's another story. The Legionnaires on Friday night, at home, eliminated Ernestown twsp. from the O.M.H.A. playdowns winning 3-2. Horton scored the hattrick with Storry picking up two assists, A. Jones, Fewer, Blayone and Crowell one assist each. Port won the five game semi-final series, three games straight. The first Port Perry PeeWee team ever to advance to the 0.M.H.A. All-Ontario finals. Congratulations Legion- aires. The Legionaires have now assured that Port Perry will be listed in the archives of the O.M.H.A. Hopefully, by the time the final series is over the name Port Perry will be moved from under the heading "finalist" to POR PERKY A TAR Legionaires reach finals "pretty good PeeWee. teams... VLE x AT fds fie Pein Ba under the heading "champ- ions." I could quote statistics that say: Lovering had a great year keeping the puck out of our net or that the Storry, Horton, Jones line had a great year putting the puck into the opposition net or that the Blayone, Crowell defence combo had a great year patrolling the blue line etc., etc., etc, but the real reason for the success of this years' team' has been the effort extended by every player in giving 100 percent of his ability in executing his skills, whether they be offensive or defensive. The Constitution of the 0.M.H.A,, item 1, article D, reads, quote "The aims of the association are as follows: To inculcate in the. boys certain ideals: to play fairly under all circum- stances and all conditions: to give opponents a fair chance and not to take unfair advantage of any opponent: to win modestly and receive defeat with a smile: to give credit to the team that wins: not to question or dispute the ref- erees' or umpires decision, unquote. Elect Harvey Graham play. .._exciting, winning The Legionaires and their coach exemplify the teach- ings of the Constitution both on the.ice and in the dress- ing room. Maybe they could even convince the President of the NHL that a team can hockey by ' keeping their gloves on, their stick on the ice and their mouth shut. The Legionaires have not had a major penalty, a bench penalty or miscon- duct penalty. They have played 52 games, winning 40 tying 5 and losing 7. Just maybe there is a connection Watch the bulletin board _ at the arena for the date and times of .the Legion- aires play-off games in the 0.M.H.A. All-Ontario finals. Hang Loose!!
