By Betty Deeth With Easter fast ap- proaching, the ladies of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary are busily planning their Spring Fashion Show. Again this - "year, latest fashions for all the family will be displayed by local merchants at the Port Perry High School auditorium on Wednesday, April 6 at 8:00 P.M. Appreciation was expres- sed by Mrs. M. Pugh, Auxili- ary President, for the great co-operation of over 20 local businesses who are partic- __ipating in this very unique fashion show, and to their The males are not being over- looked in this show, as not only are they participating as models in all age groups, but a few well known men will be commentating. Port Perry's distinctive shops are attracting a grow- ing number of customers from larger centres because they offer personalized shop- ping, up-to-date fashions and the added pleasing atmos- phere of a 'small town". This show will demonstrate, no doubt, just how much effort the merchants put forth to serve their custom- ers and the community. The Hospital Auxiliary was organized 25 years ago, and special events are being planned to celebrate this - Silver Anniversary. Ever- one is invited to attend, and encouraged to donate items for sale at the annual Spring Fair to be held on May 28, at Latcham Centre. A special Silver Anniversary Tea is planned for October, Through the years, the dedicated Auxiliary mem- bers have worked for the Hospital in a variety of ways. In the beginning, the ladies provided canned fruit, did the mending and sewed bed sheets and nighties. From their fund raising ef- forts they have purchased equipment. Last year alone, over two thousand dollars was spent to provide a rock-' ing chair for the comfort of little patients in the paedi- atric ward; a fetal-phone to- monitor the heartbeat of un- born babies; and a croupette to give relief to children. A nice little custom is the presentation of a pair of bootees to each newborn baby. Other endeavours of the PORT PERRY-STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 30, 1977 -- 3 Plans completed for Spring fashion show Auxiliary are the manage- ment and staffing of the Tuck Shop at the Hdspital, and participating in the vol- unteer program of direct assistance- to nurses and patients. Seed Fair winners Port Perry and area residents did well at the Ontario County Seed Fair and Feed Show competitions held at the Community Hall in Utica last week, collect- ing a good share of the championship awards. Over 60 exhibits were shown in the various classes by 24 exhibitors. The hay section of the show was up considerably, and there were excellent exhibits in all classes. Leslie Smith of R.R.4, Sunderland picked up the Barley and Rye champion- ships, as well as first in the fall wheat and shelled corn categories. First in various classes went to Bill Lamb and Robert Smith, and Ed Bag- shaw of Sunderland also won a first. Roger Holtby of RRA, _ Port Perry also earned two thirds and a second in the competitions, Grand Champion of the event was Leslie Smith for gathering the highest points on wheat, oats, rye, barley and corn classes. The seed fair is sponsored each year by the Ontario County Soil and Crop Im- provement Association in co-operation with the Ontario Ministry of Agricul- ture and Food.
