Rob Goble, Jim White, Greg Warriner, Karl "Durham and Jay VanCamp had singles. The novice's 3rd on the 27th of the month was by far the most exciting. At the end of regulation time the score was 2-2. This meant that penalty shots had to be taken by three 'members of each. team, Port Perry won the shoot- off making the final score 5-3. Lee Wilbur had 2 goals while Craig Menzies, Dave Burnett and Greg Warriner had one each. On their 4th game the Mersco boys faced Brace- bridge and came up with a 4-2 victory. Dave Burnett led the way with 2 goals with Lee Wilbur and Craig Menzies netting singles. This put Port in the champ- ionship against Orillia. Port opened the scoring in this game with Craig Menzies assisted by Dave Burnett and Lee Wilbur. Orillia tied up the score but Mersco boys came back with 2 goals by Karl Dur- ham. Greg Warriner picked" up 1 assist on each goal. Orillia scored again to make it 3-2 but Lee Wilbur scored the clincher to make the final score 4-2. Much credit must go to the two goaltenders, John Moore and Brian Treen who both played standout goal throughout the tournament. The following Saturday, the Mersco boys travelled to Keene tournament. The first game the Novice boys Durham, Greg Warriner, Jay VanCamp, Lee Wilbur and Andy Systma scored for Port. Dave Burnett had 2 assists while Menzies, Lane and Karl Durham had single assists. In the second game the novice defeated Campbell- ford 1-0 in overtime. Dave Burnett scored the winner assisted by Craig Menzies. The novice boys were de- feated by Peterborough 3-1 in the championship game. Dave Burnett had the only goal for Port. Again the goaltending was excellent in the tournament but I think the boys had a letdown after the big Bea- verton win.
