Hadden The Annual Meeting of Lindsay Presbyerial U.C.W. was held in Cannington United Church on Wednes- day, March 30, 1977, conven- ing at '10 a.m. with Mrs. Gordon Gilson, Pleasant Point, president in the chair. The Opening Hymn was "Thou Whose Almighty Word", Mrs. John Robertson, Can- nington, graciously wel- comed the ladies to their church. Mrs. Gilson read a short meditation on "Mary and Martha at Bethany" and led us in a paraphrase of "The Lord is My Shepherd'. Mrs. John Coburn, Fene- lon Falls, treasurer of the Presbyterial, gave the Fin- ancial Report. The objective for 1977 is $27,000. to be raised for the Mission and Service Fund. Mrs. Gordon Grills of Valentia read the Roll Call. rs. David Lownsborough akwood invited the 1978 Presbyterial Annual to their church. On April 12 and 13, the Annual meeting of Bay of Quinte Conference U.C.W. will convene in Campbell- ford United Church, The next Executive Meet- ing of Lindsay Presbyterial U.C.W. will be on June 6 at Fenelon Falls United Church at 10 a.m. Mrs. Wm. Jackson, Reab- boro, presented some of the Literature from her display. Suggested Study Kit is "Canadian Concerns - Chris- tian Response". Mrs. Clayton Hewie; Cameron, gave a report on the Task Force on "Alcohol 'and Drug Abuse". Mrs. Sam Brandsma, Lindsay, announced that the School for Readers is to be at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac on September 9, 10, 11, 1977. Mrs. McKim, expressed her joy when Dr. Betty Bridges and Nurse Edith Radley were released from prison in Angola and returned to Toronto after three months of privation and mental suffering. Our prayers are requested for Dr. George Burroughs who has returned to Donde, Angola, Miss McKim remarked that we are in partnership with need countries over- seas and we endeavour to fill their needs when asked for the various positions such as evangelists, agron- omists, surgeons, obstetri- cians, champlains, public health nurses, etc. Miss McKim told us that Pastor Elijah Lumbama of Zambia accompanied by his wife and seven children spent three years in the Hamilton and Toronto area. The Church in Zambia was overjoyed to have a share in "World Mission" by sending as well as receiving. Miss McKim asked "Would you wish to have a Missionary from another country come to Bay of Quinte conference? A five minute "Buzz" session followed. Mrs. Seldon Parker, Oak- wood, conducted a very . impressive "In Memoriam" service. Mrs. Wm. Kennedy, Ome- mee, spoke briefly on the committee to the Handi- capped, "What our Church can do for the Disabled". Miss McKim again spoke. Her theme was "The Lack of Human Rights in our World Today". Miss McKim displayed a Victory Shawl made by the women of Korea whose hus- bands or sons are in a political prison. "There are thousands of political prisoners in South Korea. There is no freedom of the press so the people themselves do not know about the happenings. Re- latives were allowed, this winter, to take thermal underwear to their loved ones because there was no heat." A film may be obtained from the Division of World Ourtreach re Human Rights in Korea. In Brazil, the people are suffering terribly, actually being cruelly tourtured in many, many cases. The situation in Uganda is very, very critical. All christians are in danger. What can we do? We can pray. We can support our governments in- tention to support an Inter- national Independent Inquiry into human rights violations in Uganda - by writing letters to Parli- ament' Buildings, Ottawa. We can contact or (join for $10.00) Amnesty Inter- national, 2101 Algonquin Ave., Ottawa. Our moderator urges us to acquire a Global Conscious- ness, We need to let the suffering Christians know that we are standing behing them, Mrs. C. Gillis, Canferon, thanked Miss McKim for her challenging addresses. A beautiful solo "Only a Prayer Away" was sung by . Mrs. Ray Simpson, accom- panied by Mrs. Walter Rus- sell, both of Woodville. Mrs. Deanne Wellman, Omemee, presented the fol- lowing resolution: "That the Lindsay Presbyterial U.C.W. request the Bay of Quinte Conference U.C.W. to set up a Task Force includ- ing. someone from the National Division of World Outreach, to investigage the feasibility of inviting a mis- sionary to the Bay of Quinte Conference and that a letter be sent to the Conference Division of World Outreach informing them of our action today." This resolution was passed unanimously. Mrs. Marian Davis, Pres- ~ ident of Bay of Quinte Con- ference U.C.W. brought greetings and urged us to compare and re-assess our meetings regarding time spent on important and not as important issues. If not satisfied we should make changes. Mrs. Burton Upton, Oak- wood, read the Nominating Report. The Election and Install- ation of Officers for 1977 Executive was conducted by Rev. John Carkert of Lind- say Queen Street United Church, Chairman of Lind- say Presbytery. The closing.
