The organ was installed in time to be used in a Choir Concert, "Moods in Music 77", on the preceding Thursday. This programme was of very high caliber and the Senior and Youth choirs are to be congratulated on a very polished performance. The first half of the pro- gramme was devoted to secular music and soloists fromthe Youth Choir who showed both talent and poise were Billy Dowson, Joyce Lane and Lea Dowson. From the Senior Choir, Diane Lackie, Marian Rod- way, Audrey Sharpe, Ted ~ Griffin, Dr. Millar, Ralph Bailey, Jack Dowson, Charles te and Irwin Gibson gdve us some "happy" music in solos, duets and a quartette. Following a short inter- mission, the choirs returned, the Seniors wearing their Choir gowns, and the girls of the Youth Choir wearing their long red skirts, the gift of the U.C.W. last. year. Some beautiful sacred music by classic composers, Perry, Bach, Holst, Mendel- ssohn and Rowley was per- formed by both choirs. ploist were Mary Holt, Jean Kennedy, Marion Rod- way, - Catherine Millar, Ralph Bailey and Jack Dow- son. For a closing number, a fine arrangement of Baring- Gould's "Now the Day is Over" with both choirs, was sympathetically done, a fit- ting finale for a splendid corcert. Mr. Glenn Taylor is doing marvelous work with these choirs, and their singing is always interpreted with feel- ing and understanding. As- sistant accompanists were Dr. Millar, Charles White, Gloria Forder and Marilyn Gibson. On Sunday afternoon the recital featuring the Rodgers 3 Manual Organ was enjoyed *by a large audience. We are most fortunate in having three very talented and capable organists in the United Church. Gloria Forder, played with beautiful style, Sonata in C Minor by Mendelssohn with four movements, and Andante by Franck were well received. Gloria was the United Church organist for some years and we are always happy to hear her. Glenn Taylors "Thumb Box Sketches' by Lamarter, four quiet but shining little jewels of descriptive music were followed by To Spring- time, a lilting little number which Vou. like a joyful spring poe The duets, Prelude, Fugue and Variations by Franck with Dr. Millar at the Organ and Mr, Taylor, piano, made a nice change and variety, and the well-known Water Music by Handel, with Dr.. Millar, organ and Gloria Forder, piano, was a delight. For a final number, Dr. Millar gave us Bach's "Jesu Joy of Mans Desir- ing", without which an organ recital would be in- complete, and a choral Im- was skilfully executed.
