We are changing site plan agreements to get the trail= Open new packing plant Months - of planning and preparation culminated last weekend for Ron and Betty Deeth with the Grand Open- ing of their modern meat packing plant on Windcrest Farm, ~The plant is one of the most up-to-date in the area, and features an advanced meat packaging machine that is the only one of its kind in Canada. Although costly, 'the new packaging process provides one of the most efficient methods available. After being wrapped and sealed on all four sides of the package, the meat moved along a conveyor and into the shrink tunnel, where the Cryovac film shrinks to the shape of the product. From here it is colour coded and then placed in the freeze for "quick freeze", the most efficient method of freezing. Friend and neighbouring farmer, Joe Baxter was MC for the opening ceremonies, and introduced many of the people who were attending the function. Among those present were William Newman, Minister of Agri- culture; 'Walter Beath, Regional Chairman; 'Lawrence Malcolm, Mayor of Scugog Township and . many other friends, two of whom flew from Red Deer, Alberta, to be present for the occassion. A large marquis tent; errected on the grounds of the farm was the scene for a demonstration of beef cutting by Arthur Buck, meat cutting specialist at "and we need more facili ties like it throughout Ontario'. 'Mr. Newman said that he believes strongly .in the family farm, as it is one-of the freest enterprises that exist today. Mayor Lawrence Malcolm outlined this affiliation with the Deeth's project from the beginning, and the "red tape' that was cut to:allow them to go ahead. He congratulated Ron Deeth on his confidence in the project, and the thorough job that had been done. "Your new enterprise is a real asset to the people of the Township of Scugog" he concluded. a E ) i] } | Both Ron and Betty Deeth welcomed the 250 people he attended the Friday t ceremonies, stressing that it was very gratifying to see so many. present, They. also thanked the many friends and: neigh- bours. for their untireing efforts in helping them get ready for the opening.
