dl »; 3 Mr. On June 18, 1977, at 5:30 p.m, Nestleton United Church was thé"scene of a lovely summer wedding ceremony when Joanna Rita, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wolters of Black- stock and David Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm, Nestleton were united in marriage by Rev. Victor Parsons. Mr.. Jack Couperus, Oshawa, presided at the Hammond organ and Miss Gail Malcolm, sister of the groom sang,The Wedding Prayer" and , Sun- set" during the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an original princess line gown of ivory georgette over pol- yester satin with chapel train, Styled with long fitted sleeves, it featured pearl button detailing. Her full veil of tulle illusion was held in place'by a floral and. baby's breath. ' She carried her great grand- mother's tiny heirloom wed- 'ding purse and wore a gold and pearl pendant necklace. The maid of 'honour was the bride's sister, Miss Wilma Wolters. The brides- maids were Miss Anita De- Jong and Miss Deborah Wol- ters, the bride's sister. They wore identical gowns of sky blue polyester knit with sty- lish deep V neckline and self belt. They carried nosegay bouquets of white mums, blue corn flowers and baby' 8 breath. The best man was Dennis Malcolm and the ushers were Glenn and Barry Mal- colm. The groom and his three brothers wore co-' ordinated gray suits with flower boutonnieres. For the reception in Nest- leton Community Centre the bride's mother wore a long white printed polyester gown and the groom's mother wore a peach polyes- ter formal gown. Both wore white 'gardenia corsages. Neil Malcolm was Malcolm-Wolters Master of Ceremonies. Following the reception, the guests were entertained at the spacious farm home of the bride's parents. For travelling, the bride chose a navy pant suit with an orchid corsage. Follow- ing a honeymoon to North- ern Ontario, they are resid- ing in their new home at Nestleton, R.R.1. Out of town guests were from Michigan, Sudbury, Simcoe, Exeter, Oshawa, Whitby, Baileboro and New- castle. Prior to the wedding the bride was honoured at several showers. Mrs. Jo- anna Rienstra held a linen shower assisted by Mrs. Fenna Gjaltema. Miss Janet Parsons hosted a mis- cellaneous shower for Ran- gers and school friends. Mrs. Pat Sleep hosted a kitchen shower assisted by Margaret - Duivesteyn, for . Mrs. Noreen Malcolm and Mary Lou entertained relatives and friends of the groom for a miscellaneous shower. The _Nestleton U.C.W. hosted a community shower at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Law- rence Malcolm entertained the wedding party following the rehearsal. Guild's Craft Show to be annual affair A pot luck luncheon was fhe start of the June 8th eeting of the Louise Pat- pis Handicraft Guild, held in the St. John's Church hall. It was well attended with 31 members and 3 visi- tors present. The president, Vera * Hutton, read to the mem- bers the article in the Port Perry Star about our exhib- ition of work held recently in the Latcham Centre. It was a well written article and our thanks go to Betty Deeth for all her work in research- ing and reporting. The guest book which our visitors to the show signed when entering made inter- esting reading. As well as the nearby towns being represented, visitors from Australia and Switzerland were recorded.. All the members reported hearing favourable com- ments on the show and a motion was adopted that the show be made an annual affair. Since this will mean all new work to be exhibited, the 'members are advised - not to slacken off during the summer months. Programs for September and October were discussed and in September we shall have a presentation of pic- tures and slides which were taken at our most recent show and also previous shows. In October the program will be dried flower arrang- ing and in preparation for this the members are asked to save their dried flowers and weeds. Mr. and Mrs. David McLean (nee Olive Preston) of Blackstock, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their home, June 5th, with a family reunion. David McLean and Olive Preston were united in marriage on January 1, Ashburn area news by Mrs. R. Heron The sympathy of the com- munity goes out to Mrs. Frank Lynde and family in the passing of a loving hus- band and father. Mr. Lynde lived all his life in the area and will be missed. Holidays seem to be tak- ing its toll on church atten- dance but it was a good service on Sunday morning. Everyone enjoyed hearing Mr. McEntyre sing 'How Can I be Lonely". The sermon was taken from St. Matthew, the first in a series of messages from the Sermon on the Mount. A miscellaneous shower. was held in the Community Centre on Friday night in honour of Miss Brenda Johnston and Mr. Alan Ogle. The happy couple received many beautiful and useful gifts along with the best wishes of the com- munity. We forgot to mention last week there was a very interesting Corsage Work- shop held at the home of Mrs. W. Davis under the auspices of the horticulture society. Mrs. Doris Marlow showed how to make the corsages and about fifteen ladies made them from roses and mums. Jeff Gardiner is attending the Boy Scouts Jamboree in Prince Edward Island this week. Mr. and Mrs. Willian Davis attended the Kristan Davis wedding at the beautiful Edwards Gardens last Saturday in Toronto. Married 50 years 1927 at the rectory in Winni- peg, Manitoba. Later they moved to Ontario and have lived close to the Blackstock area ever since. ' Of the eight members 'of the bride's family, 'two brothers and three sisters came to help them cele- brate. One brother was unable to be present, and one sister is deceased. Seven members of this Preston family have cele- brated their Golden Wedd- ings and two have celebrat- ed their 60th Wedding Anniversaries. The youngest brother is 74 years old and the eldest sister is in 90th year and is still active in the Bethany Community. The grooms family, of five brothers, all live in Western Canada.
