The low, bid of $31,180 from Bibeau Construction, "Brooklin, was about double the estimate given in an . engineering report on the cost of repairs. The two high tenders of $99,200 from Bowmanville Construction and $91,080 from Lake Scugog Lumber were rejected out- * right. & .- Council questioned the bids received with Councillors Reg Rose and Don Crosier both suggesting that $31,180 "would be a lot of money to put into the old arena. Councillor Rose proposed that the low bid be referred for more study and consideration to the engineering consultants to determine why the bid was so much out of line with the estimates, and also that the arena board should provide council with a projected operating budget for the upcoming year. "If there is not enough money coming in, then it might warrant tearing the old building "down," said Councillor Rose. BLACKSTOCK TENDERS A bid of $8,900 for repairs to the Blackstock arena was accepted by council Monday night. It was the lowest of four tenders received which ranged to a high of $33,906 from Lake Scugog Lumber. Peter Keunen of R. R. 2, Blackstock, will get the contract. DOG CONTROL Scugog Council agreed after a lengthy discussion Monday night to hire part-time reinforcements in an effort to crack down on nuisance dogs running at large in the Township. Complaints in recent weeks prompted Council to look into the possibility of hiring part-time help for a "blitz attack' on strays this summer in an effort to get the owners to keep dogs under control. Council voted to offer the job: to one of the two applicants who will patrol one day per week for four weeks at a salary of $40 per day and 18.5 cents per mile, Dog Control officer Ann Barrett attended the meeting Monday night and told council that she would require full-time assistance if the dog control patrols are © to be properly carried out. She agreed to the idea of a part-time crack down however, saying "anything is worth a try". : t TENNIS LIGHTING he Tennis enthusiasts in Port Perry could soon be playing under the lights if money can be raised through Wintario and various provincial grants for the purchase d (Continued on page 15) Spring Water Days SATURDAY, JULY 2 C.B.
