What's more, most Cana- dian dailies and weeklies carry up-to-date informa- tion on job programmes and the employment situation across the country, as well as the causes for regional under-employment situ- ations. Anyone who is ig- norant of the facts is so by choice. But let us limit our view of the unemployment situa- tion to Ontario where the number of job-less stood at some 316,000 earlier this spring, or about 43 percent of the total number of un- employed across Canada. the provincial budget of April 19, 1977, specifically sets "full employment target for Ontario at 5.3 percent". This would mean the creation of a quarter of a million new jobs this year in Ontario alone. But the '"'Bramalea charter' pro- "Accelerating provincial capital spending' by some $75.6 million. Another $68 million will go into creating 45,000 summer jobs for students over a 16-week- period. In other words, about $145 million will come out of Ontario tax-payers pockets to create short-term relief of our provincial un- employment situation. I did not notice any criticism of this particular 'band-aid measure' in your letter! If these facts are too con- fusing, let's see what rea- sons you have given for Canadian unemployment to- day which, in your own words, has produced: 'The Quebec problem', the "separatist movement", the FLQ crisis of 1970", '""Communism.. which breeds on idleness'; "teaches young Canadians terrorist tactics ...in Ger- many..the Cuban em y... Holland" etc; you also warn that "'Ottawa...has tanks for ference of this sentence borders on sedition and I particularly demand clari- fication of your meaning here, please! : Much as I looked I could find no single cause given for our domestic unemploy- ment situation, no compara- tive table of statistics be- tween provinces or the world-wide unemployment problem. So what it comes down to, Mr. Kelly, is this: 1 - you make a flat state- ment for which you do not even attempt to produce evidence; 2 - you present not a single fact; 3 - you use: sinister and threatening language, in- cluding seditious allegations against something you chose to call "Ottawa". 4 - you warn against com- munism but have the nerve to suggest Canada adopt "China's industrial plan for the next 23 years"...what- ever that may mean, in the evils you have conjured up. : In all charity, one can only assume that you are totally unfamiliar with current Canadian thinking and unaware of what goes on in "Ottawa" or "Queen's Park", for that matter. You can easily rectify that situation by spending a lot of your idle hours in reading and correcting your view of what a "dedicated Cana- dian"really is. To para- phrase Junius: A dedicated Canadian will neither advise nor consent to demagoguery.
