Canadians travelling within the coun- try, and visitors from abroad, spent over $9 billion last year. This provided about 800,000 jobs, including about 500,000 year round. And our own provincial tourist industry, as you are well 'aware, generated $2.8 billion in revenues and accounted for 200,000 jobs. But the growth rate of our revenues has been declining since 1974, along with our visitation to this province, and might I just suggest to you that your Ministry step in, in a case such as this. While I. am not for a moment questioning the right to freedom of the press, I must admit a sense of surprise that the Toronto Star would consent to print an article that so prejudices vacationing in Ontario that' the effects may be perman-' ently damaging. Surely the promotional campaign of your Ministry does not belittle the merits of the area in which you are advertising in order to make - Ontario appear better. I am sure you will agree with me that the approach taken by the Miami Beach Tourist Devel- opment Authority is in poor taste, and 1 sincerely hope that your Ministry will take the appropriate action at this time to make them aware of our feelings.
