They arrived in Vancouver August 3, and after visiting various parts of Canada they were to meet last weekend in Ottawa to ex- change views .and impres- sions with cultural ex- change visitors from other countries. For Yasuko, it was the first trip out of her native Japan, and she told Port Perry Star in a brief inter- view last week that the Canadian people had been kind and very friendly, and the wide open spaces and bigness of Canada are a marked contrast to Japan. The cooler than normal August in Ontario was a bit of a surprise, however. Tokyo in August, she said, is very hot and humid. An English language teacher at a junior high school in Tokyo, Yasuko said that those selected to make the trips abroad must "have proficiency in the language of the country they will visit. The Japan- ese visitors are interviewed and must pass an examin- ation set by the World Visit Exchange Association in Tokyo. Most of her expens- es are met by the Foreign Affairs department of the Japanese government. Miss Crawford recently spent time visiting Holland on an exchange organized by the federal External Affairs department. As part of the agreement, she. was asked to -host in Canada one of the visitors from other countries. Miss Crawford works at YMCA day care centre in NOW!
