For 15 years they worked in special restaurants and studied and planned what they would like for them- selves. Eventually they took the big step and moved to Gravenhurst and opened the only proper restaurant on old highway 11, halfway be- tween Algonquin Park and Toronto. They call it Ascona Place after their. favourite Swiss village which is full of chestnut trees. if Last Wednesday eleven ladies from the Island, in- cluding Institute and former friends made a special trip to Gravenhurst to visit the Zinggs and have lunch. They . weresgiven special attention by Trudy and taken on a tour of the different rooms and enjoyed the decor which included Swiss brass, cow- bells of all sizes, careful lighting, beautiful plants, copper pots and cobs of Indian corn and a little stream trickling over rocks. They have European chefs and superb menus. The Island ladies conti- nued their days outing when they called at the home of another former Institute member, Joyce Heayn in Haliburton. Joyce and Alvin were prepared and welcom- ed the group with a tour of their new-home and a gener- ous lunch. At the Island Church on Sunday could be seen gladiolii as lovely as those at the Fair. If anyone is interested in applying for this position, we trust they will phone Mrs. Maurice Fralick or Mrs. Don Gerrow for further details. The choir had another treat and surprise for us when they had pursuaded Barbara Brown and Hennie Jackson to sing a duet. The organ fund is growing. Three memorial donations have either been promised or forwarded. When received, an official receipt. will be sent out for income tax. The old electric organ and an antique pump organ will be advertised and sold to in- crease our fund. Now that September is here, it will be a term of new PAN AE he ¥ beginnings in many fields. Don't forget to bring your children out to 'Sunday School September 11 so they can be registered immediat- ely. Boys particularly need encouragement. Now that school is starting for college students, we may lose some choir members, but we remember other young people who said they would be interested in start- ing in September. As you realize, we an- nounced the two ennumera- tors a week in advance. But. now you know they started Sept. 6. \ On Thursday, Mrs. Grace Love will welcome her early friend, Margaret Piddington from Vancouver City. They both grew up together in Toronto and have: continued to keep in touch. Grace will also bring her mother, Mrs. Nellie Miller, to enjoy the renewed friendship. On Friday, Mr. Eugene Dernier from Glen Falls, N.B. and his brother Joseph of Moncton, N.B. called on their sister, Mrs. Bill Middle- ton and visited until Sunday. .
