HEE GARY . News of interest from pa. v 1 4 by Mrs. Vera Brown Church service this past' Sunday was a special treat for those who attended. We weresvery fortunate indeed to have Rev. Ella Taylor with us and we were also favoured with an anthem by members of our choir. On Sunday, October 9th at 11:30 a.m. our guest speaker will be Rev. Cliff Pendlebury. We urge all members and adherents of our church to attend so that the Pastoral Relations Committee will know your opinions. Rev. Pendlebury would like to be called to our charge and is at present under consideration by our committee, Church service is at Utica, Sunday School will be held at 10:15 a.m. The Sunday School walk-a- thon had to be postponed due to the rainy weather. THe following: were the lucky winners at the_euchre held Friday evening: Ladies - Dorothy McGuckin, Fran Gibson and Marion Bell. Men - Mary Horn, Vera Taylor and Jim Evans. Freeze-out winners were Mrs. Steniford and Tom Carruthers, Marion Bell and Effie Ploughman. There will be another euchre in two weeks. ' The Utica Hall has been very nicely decorated with new drapes in the past few weeks. We can be very proud of our Hall Board for the work they have done to keep things in shape. Too many times volunteer workers in the community are taken for granted. On Tuesday Mr. Baker and Mrs. Dennis Thompson join- ed the Mount Albert Horti- Strong showing for Blackstock Jr. farmer Leanne VanCamp of Blackstock was awarded the National Farmers' Union Trophy for exhibiting the best dairy calf of the day at the East Central 4-H Championship Show, Sep- tember 22 in Lindsay. Leanne placed first in the Senior Holstein Calf Class. Other competitors from Durham Region who placed in the events included Valerie VanCamp of RR 1, Blackstock, for 8th spot in . the First Prize Group. In the Senior Dairy Calf Class for the other Dairy Breeds, Craig Larmer of RR 1, Blackstock was fifth, while Paul and Doug Larmer were in the second Prize Group. They won the best Group of Three Junior or Senior Dairy heifers of the other Dairy Breeds. In the Group of Three Senior Holstein Calf Class Durham was second out of a total of 12 groups. A total of 20 Durham County 4-H members took part in the show with some 170 members from Ontario, Victoria, Peterborough and Northumberland. Mrs. William Brown and Mrs. L.B. Roberts attended the Banquet on Tuesday at Conway Gardens with the Sunnybrae Ladies Golf League. Special occasion permits have not been granted to Club Annrene for the last two Saturday evening dances.
