OLE Joa pe Col : dR a A ey v/ ' - 3 WEL 5S bE a Robert Baird wins scholarship Robert Baird of RR 2, Blackwater, maintained a family tradition when he won a two-year scholarship at the International Plowing Match held September 27 to October 9 near Kingston, Ontario. Robert teamed with Greg Timbers of Sandford in a class for 15-20 year olds and beat out 14 other competi- tors to capture the Branch Association Special based on point totals over the four- day event. Competition plowing ob- viously runs in the Baird family as Robert's older brother Kenton won the same scholarship last year and is now using the award to study agriculture at Guelph University. Robert, i who is presently in grade 12, is unsure at this time whether he will attend Guelph next year or take grade 13 and then go on to university. The boys' father, Hugh, was himself a Canadian plowing champion in 1956. Mr. Baird told the Port Perry Star last week that he is mighty proud of his son's accomplishments.
