Taylor was a supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. H Blackstock Agriculture Society news The top fifteen placings in the Grain Corn Field Crop Competition sponsored by the Blackstock Agriculture Society. Mervyn MacCannell The passing of Mervyn MacCannell came suddenly Saturday, September 24th, 1977 while playing golf at Uxbridge, he was in his 63rd "year. Mervyn was a mem- ber of the United Church. He was the eldest son of Mrs. Donald MacCannell and the late Donald Mac- Cannell. He was born at Boothville, Ontario on April 10, 1915 and received his education in the school across the road from the MacCannell homestead. On October 17, 1940 he married Bessie MacDonald, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. D.A. -MacDonald of Priceville, Ont. He enlisted in World War II and served with the Algonquin Regi- ment overseas for 3 years. On returning home from war service he and family, resided in oshawa. In 1950 they bought a farm at Epsom, a number of years later they sold the farm, moving to Oshawa again where he was employed until his sudden death. In 1968 they built a home in Utica, where he and family have since resided. Mervyn is survived by his wife Bessie, one son Doug- las of Peterborough, one daughter, Jewel Dawn (Mrs. V. Filletti) at home. Two granddaughters and one grandson, Kelly Lynn, Gail and Ryan. He is also survived by his mother, (Mrs. Jessie MacCannell) Mississauga, four brothers . and four sisters, Clifford of Mississauga, Ray of Dur- ham, Grant of Markham, Trick during the week. Mr. A. Swain held a Thanksgiving party for family and friends on the holiday. Several from this district attended sports at Mosport during the holiday weekend. Mr. J. Tabb celebrated a birthday with a party this week "Happy Birthday." Mrs. R. Davey 'spent the holiday with Mr. and Mrs. S. Grant, Zion. Sympathy of the commun- jty is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Taylor in the passing of her uncle, Mr. Herbert Trick of Millbrook. Several from this district attended the Fall Supper held in Blackstock on Satur- day night. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grace, Sarnia district, visited with Mr. and Mrs. H. Grace and family. Mrs. S. Grant and Alan, Zion, called on Mrs. R. Davey during the week. Mr. andMrs Brian Lee and family, Oshawa, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Grace and family. OBITUARY -- Ted of Brampton, Jean (Mrs. Wm. McLean) Shelbourne, Annie (Mrs. Ted Irwin) Owen Sound and Lois (Mrs. _ Alf Hoag) Mississauga The Royal Canadian Legion at 'Port Perry of which' Mervyn was a member held a memorial service. A largely attended service was held Tuesday, Septem- ber 27 in the McDermott- Panabaker Chapel, Port Perry, conducted by the Rev. Archie Scott. Interment took place in the Hillman Cemetery, Utica. The Pallbearers and Flowerbearers were close friends of the deceased. Maple Sugar includes Eleanor Townsend, who is the North American Women's fiddle playing champion, and Dorothy Hogan a singer and song- writer who has developed a national reputation for her work with the group.
