The regular euchre party Six people saved from sinking boat Six persons were saved from a 55-foot yacht on Lake Ontario last Saturday, after the boat listed in the water and the hatch cover flew open when a generator broke loose. Water poured into the hatch and began to take the yatch down by the stern. Ray Perrin, Water Street, Port Perry was one of the first to see the boat roll over onto its side. Mr. Perrin, who is a firefighter at the Pickering Nuclear Station, said that about 10:30 he and a security guard noticed a large boat south of the plant that appeared to be in trouble. They watched through a pair of binoculars for a while and when they realized the boat was sinking called the Pickering-Ajax Rescue Unit (PARU) for help. Mr. Perrin told the Star that from the shore it was hard to tell how many were on the yacht, but they could count at least four. When the rescue ship PARU reached the scene, they found three children and a woman in a dinghy, and two men still on board the capsized yacht, Lady's Pleasure. Searchmaster John Han- bidge, of PARU said that the vessel would have sunk in Greenbank Brownies The Brownies spent Wed- nesday afternoon at the Port Perry Nursing Home with some of the Senior Citizens singing songs and knitting and crocheting. Hot choco- . late with marshmallow and cookies were served after- wards by Mrs. Jean Nash and her assistant. 'Saturday afternoon, the Brownies finished working on their ceramic mugs at .Ceramics House of Joy in Ashburn. These will be on display at the bazaar on Saturday, November 26th. The Annual Baking Con- test will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 2:00 p.m., Greenbank Hall. The Judges will be Mayor Lawrence Malcolm, Mrs. Ruby Beare and Mrs. Jean Hunter. Fol- lowing the contest, the baking will be auctioned off by Mr. John Maw of Port Perry. Plan to attend. another half-hour had they not arrived. Since there were no injuries, the PARU crew tied a 100 foot tow-rope to the yacht and towed it for five hours to the Whitby Harbour. For Ray Perrin and the security guards it was a nightmare. He said they felt helpless standing on shore watching the boat sinking and the people waving franti- cally.
