- Handicraft guild show successful ¢ by Betty Deeth What does a person do when he or she becomes absorbed and proficient in a craft or art form, and the home is overcrowded with their work, and their friends and relatives are inundated with these gifts? The next " logical step for a group of local people was to share their talents and skills with others and perhaps promote the sale of their wares. The Potpourri Handicraft Guild. was formed last yeaf during which time the mentbership has tripled from the 16 found- * ing members. Their show and sale at Town Hall 1873 on Friday and Saturday, Oct- ober 21 and 22, revealed a lively interest by the public in the handwork, with ap- » proximately a thousand in- dividual items displayed. Some of the demonstrations at various intervals were basket weaving, hooking, off-loom weaving, Inkle weaving, spinning, wood burning and natural Christ- ¥ mas wreath making, The Linda Haughton of Caesarea is working at what is organizers stressed that by forming into a group they have been able to learn from each other and increase their creativity. "After Potpourri was formed, we decided to meet monthly in Town Hall 1873, in order to encourage the arts and handicrafts in this area" President Peggy Myers said. - "The first show was held in a member's home with a hundred guests and it was realized that people really appreciate a hand produced or crafted article as opposed to a mass manufactured one and the large attendance at. this show is evidence of this fact, also!" she exclaimed. In the "baby corner" sat a hand-made whimsical little- boy doll with bright eyes and dark curly wool hair. \ With the idea of promoting local talent and because of the pleasing likeness, this charming toy 'was dubbed "The Doctor Tom Millar" doll and orders were being taken. rd known as an inkle loom, and she is making table runners. 1ew doors to smal business Mr. Jun Buktaw one of our representatives Uxbridge Township Municipal Offices, Will be at Telephone: 852-3301 20 Bascom Street, Uxbridge.
