Cornish -School had a very successful season in cross country runn- ing. Training began early in ' September with a large number of pupils participat- ing each day at noon hour. During physical education periods, classes were,taken to Poplar 'Park where the pupils would experience the feeling of running through the bushes. Early in October, six pupils from each age group, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and boys Members of the R. H. From the area meet the best three teams qualified for the Durham Region finals Oct. 18 at Swiss Chalet Park. In each race of the children chosen from the best teams in their areas. Our teams 'did' extremely well. Results were: (Judged according to the top four runners in each group). Nine year olds: Sherri Larabie, Coralee Gibson, Cory Fulford, Kelly Raines, Lynn Bradbury, Theresa McKenzie, Jackie Abraham, Heather McDougall. Bantams win, lose CTC Bantam hockey team won their second game of the . season on Oct. 19, then lost their first game to the same Uxbridge team on Sunday, Oct. 23. In the first contest, Port Perry dominated through- out, defeating Uxbridge by a score of 5-2. Although Ux- bridge opened the scoring early in the first period, Port Perry came back with two goals by Brian Dickson. The first came at 7:22 from Mark Jeffrey and the second 20 seconds later from Jim Daniels and Brian Mikkel- sen. Port Perry and Ux- bridge scored one apiece in the second period. Todd Healey found the mark for CTC at 1:15 from Scott Wallace. The third period resulted in two insurance goals for Port Perry. Brian Dickson scored his third goal of the night, unassisted, at the 2:47 point, then, at 4:14 Grant Vizely found the mark from,Brian Mikkelsen. On Sunday, a much im- . proved Uxbridge team -de- feated Port Perry 3-1. After a scoreless first period, Ux- bridge went on top at 10:08 of the second. Then, with only 1:10 remaining, Joe Wil- liams scored for Port Perry, * assisted by Todd Healey. The third period was dom- vy, inated by Uxbridge beating* CTC goaltender Peter Christie twice. Thirteen year olds: Kira Cope, Sharon Ashmore, Dana Lewis, Paula Haugen, Dawn Meisner, Suzanne Saulnier. 209 points, 13 out of 15 teams, Fourteen year olds: Lisa McKinzey, Heather Jeffrey, Heather McDougall, Kim Reaume, Doraine Mac- 2nd out of 10 teams. Special mention should be given to the following girls who came in the top ten of their race: Jackie Abraham (2nd); Heather McDougall (4th); Kelly West (5th); Sherri Larabie (7th); Lisa Mec- Kenzie (8th). : At the end of the meet a school's top three scores were added together to give a total. The girls total was- 178 formed from the 9, 10 and 14 year old teams. Our school was awarded a plaque for being the best K-8 school in Durham region.
