Cobourg came to life at the 15:12 mark of the first period, and scored a second goal less than two minutes later to make the game close. The visitors ran away with the second period, counting five goals, two of them in the space of eight seconds by Steve Witteneen just before the 15-minute mark. Trent Mood tallied the lone goal for the Flamingos in the second period. Flamingos starting goalie Kevin Beer was lifted mid- way through the second period by coach Dave Nicko- lishen, and replaced by Charlie Durward who was being rested after a tough 6-4 loss in Stouffville the night before. Forward Dale Sawyer put Flamingos within striking range when he counted two quick markers early in the third period to make the score 7-6. With 57 seconds D. Lois Milne, 'B.A.,0.D. Flamingos got strong of- fensive performances from George Burnett with a goal and two assists and Dale Sawyer with two goals and an assist. Burnett's goal at 10:42 of the opening period came after he picked up a rebound to the right of the Cobourg net, cut to the centre, and slid a low back- hand shot to the goalie's glove side. Rob Greiner picked up two assists from his left wing spot and with a little luck could have had a couple of goals. He used his speed and good puck-handling to turn in a strong performance. Midway through the sec- ond period a string of minor penalties to defensemen Steve Jones, John Kane and Bill Owen hurt Flamingos. Although the team did manage to score while play- ing shorthanded, the pen- alty-killing efforts seemed to take the starch out of the Flamingos as Cobourg struck three times late in the second. Goalies Kevin Beer and Charlie Durward came under heavy fire at times during the game as Flam- ingos were guilty of sloppy clearing in their own _end, and" ona" couple of goals failed to clear the Cobourg forwards from the crease area. The referee nailed Flam- ingos for 32 minutes in penal- Pacers lose two by Glenn Geer Peterborough 6 - Port 3 On Sunday October 16 the Grant Menzies Pacers tra- velled to Peterborough and came up against a much improved Peterborough club losing six to three, The Pacers kept it close for the first half of the game, but couldn't catch the fast break- ing Peterborough club in the final fifteen minutes. Mike Tobin, Rob Cannon and Darrin Jobb did the scoring for the Pacers. Newcastle 5 - Port 2 On Monday, October 17 the Grant Menzies Pacers host- ed Newcastle for the first time in this young season and came up with their second straight loss five to two. The Pacers played well enough in this game to win it but ran into a hot Newcastle goaltender and some care- less checking defensively on their part. Bryan Myers scored both of the goals for the red machine. 163 Simcoe St., Oshawa 579-8752 Pickering 7 - Port 2 On Wednesday, October 19 the Grant Menzies Pacers travelled to Pickering and came home with their third straight loss. This was the worst game the Pacers have played yet but not to give up hope because the boys have played six games in nine days causing them to be worn out which leads to frustration, But this is a good team and better things are coming for them with a little work. Rick Young and Dave Canning scored for the Pacers. The next game for the Pacers is Monday, October 31 when the! team travels to" Uxbridge. So come out and watch some exciting midget hockey. Game time 8 p.m. Bantams continued Sytsma and Robert Cook "while Mark Jeffrey has gone to the "A" club. The next game for the Port Perry CTC Bantam squad is in Whitby at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 1977. Cobourg took 28 minutes in- cluding two majors for fight- ing. ~ . "After seven games Flam- ingos have won three and lost four, and the team has yet to win on home ice. This week they were to play in Uxbridge Tuesday night, and then return home next Sun- day night for a match against Lindsay. Another win for Legion The Legionaires have yet to taste defeat. They extend- ed their winning streak to 3 ina row on Friday night with a 6-1 victory over Uxbridge. Port opened the scoring in the first period with S. Lee scoring after taking a pass from Young. Uxbridge tied it up two minutes later when Aitchison put one by Jack- man on the short side. S. Lee with his second goal of the night put the Legionaires ahead to stay, as he scored from close range after being set up with a good pass by Jones. Newcomer Neal Cane scored unassisted in the second period when he knocked the puck off Red- shaw's stick at the blue line, skated in to pick up the loose puck arid beat the goaltender with a good wrist shot. Lane got the fourth Port goal when he lifted one high into the net over a fallen goaltender and several other sprawled bodies. Jones and Goreski drew assists on the goal. Lane was robbed in a similar situation later in the third period as he lifted a back- hand shot high over a pile-up in front of the net only to have his shot hit an Uxbridge player skating through the' goal crease. Young scored the only two goals in the third period; one unassisted and one on a pass from Burnett. McKee on defence turned in his best effort to date and broke up a few dangerous rushes with good defensive plays. Jackman made a few key saves in the latter part of the game,
