22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1977 Ringettes off to success by Judy Young Ringette officially got off the ground -as part of 'Port Perry's sport scene with the opening of their league sche- dule on Sat. Nov. 5, 1977. In the opening game at the Old Arena, Young Dominion Hardware coached by Vera Brown beat Children's Boutique coached by Eileen Footé 9-7. It was a see-saw battle all the way with centre Karen Young from Dominion Hardware and Sherri Allen from Children's Boutique both experienced Ringette players, giving us a super example of how the game can be played. Both girls received the Ringette sportsmanship award from their teams for their efforts to the game and their team mates. Well done girls, we're proud of -you! Scoring for Young Domin- ion Hardware were Karen Young 4 goals and 1 assist; Wendy McDougall 3 goals; Sharon Ashmore 1 géal, 2 assists; Bonny Burton 1 goal and 2 assists; Gail Sandison and Tracey Cochrane each with one assist. Children's Boutique goals were scored by Sherri Allen with 4 and 1 assist; Connie Southern 2 goals and 1 assist, Nancy Young 2 assists and Chris English with a goal. Game two had Young Dominion Hardware again a winner against Country Vill- _ age by a score of 9 to 1. We thought two games in a sorely missed centre Linda Warriner out with a broken toe, maybe a plastic bubble would\ be thé answer for Linda! Goalie Wendy Burton gets our third Ringette sports- manship award for stopping a barrage of Rose Rings and her "We'll get them next time' attitude. " I'm sure the Jean Machine will get in high gear next week. Scoring for Young's were Karen Young with 3 goals and 1 assist, Wendy Mec- Dougall 3 goals and Sharon Ashmore 3 goals. The game of Ringette was well played ful start with the true sense of com- petition on Saturday with input from each member of the three teams: ..~We-would- like -to expand into that elusive fourth team, so we again appeal to all girls 11 to 14 years old who enjoy team sports to come and watch us Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at the old arena.
