RTE w ~ a I 1 Day Banquet, & Service 4 Today, we have a re- sponsibility, not only as members of the Legion, but as "citizens in this great country of ours, wherever we may live, to ensure our- selves that Canada remains united, as one. We are in no position to allow any group of radicals, whether they be a 'political force or individuals who call themselves "Cagadians, but in effect would rather be known by some othgr name, to destroy our country for their own private gains. Unfortunately, these radicals are present in all walks of life, but our main concern at the moment, are the threats and overtones emanating from the Pro- vince of Quebec. There is the necessity that you and I as citizens of Canada, the Legion as an organization and all Canadians who believe in our way of life, to take a firm stand and make it known to one and all, our thoughts conc¢erning Canadian Unity, in order that we may work together to assure ourselves of -a strong and united Canada. We cannot and will not accept for one 'moment, a country torn by strife and discontent, nor to be dictat- ed to by malcontents. : There is much to do if we wish our organization to # survive as a National Ser- vice Organization. Positive stands must be taken (popu- lar or not) if we are able to retain our proud traditions. We must act now, in the minds of our Ordinary and more so that of our Associate Members and move forward in the development of the New Legion." : LEST WE 1914 -- 1918 1 "PTE W- DELKNAP 1 LIFT C. 1. After. the banquet and speeches had concluded the floor was cleared for a dance to the music of the Gord Copland orchestra. Sunday morning, Legion members, veterans, cubs, sea cadets, army cadets, firemen and the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band marched from the old arena to the Scugog War Memorial Lib- rary. Here, at the original setting for the cenotaph, Provincial Command Presi- dent Bing Forbes layed a wreath, The parade then continued their march up Queen Street to the Cenotaph at the Legion Hall for the laying of the wreaths. A light blanket of snow covered the grass, and a cold November breeze blew the Canadian and Remem- brance Day flags atop the flag pole as the wreaths were laid one-by-one. Among those in the colour party this year were two American veterans visiting the area. They carried the colours of their branch from the U.S.A. in the parade, and laid a wreath at the cenotaph in remembrance of their lost comrades. After all of the wreaths were placed at the cenotaph president Jack Lee read the Honour Roll of Port Perry: area men who lost their lives during the two wars. Participants of the parade and spectators were then invited inside for a brief service and a buffet dinner. - FORGET CERT mei Cenotaph at the Legion bears the names of those men who sacrificed their lives during the first and second world wars. |] 1. 1939 -- 1945 : i | in ii "UFO WM ALLDRED-- b PTL TA ANDREWS L PIL.
