i WG Sai rd hard i iis, whihidbiianies Rod & Gun Club awards night The Port Perry Rod and Gun Club held its annual banquet and dance Saturday night at the Utica Hall, with the presentation of trophies and awards for various shooting competitions. Following is a list of trophy. and awards winners. Senior, annual match rifle: Malvin Ross, Junior Rifle: Michael Pelletier, .22 handicap: Wayne Birkett, .22 high flat: William Hodgins; .22 high flat for year: Bill Harper, .22 high per cent gain for the year: Paul Hlozan, annual centre fire match: Bill Hod- gins. The Club awards for rifle and handgun went to Ewald Bengel and Bill Hod- gins. Cec King announced the following C.I.L. awards: sharpshooter handgun to Tony Peck and Wayne Bic- kett. Sharpshooter rifle to Ewald Bengel; gold to Alfred Bengel; silver to Diana Hatch, Kathleen Hatch, Nancy Hatch, Greg Jeffrey, bronze to Nancy Hillier, Anita Hatch, Liz Hatch, and Tom Martin. Gerald Jackson presented Winchester handgun awards to Tony Peck, bronze and silver; John Williams, bronze, silver, gold and class two; John Kent, bronze; Bill Harper, bronze, silver, gold, class one, two and three; Wayne Birkett, bronze and silver. - John Williams received the blue and bronze rifle awards, and Ewald Bengel the silver and gold. Club president Bill Harper made a special gift present- ation to Don and Doreen Ashbridge for allowing the Club the use of their property for a shooting range. And ---Mr: Bill Moore got-the "Red - Rock Moose Hunt trophy" which is only awarded every 25 years. Bill seemed to get quite a kick out of it, but you'll have to get the real story behind the award from him. . Arnie O'Donnell, of the Ministry of Natural Resour- ces,. Lindsay office was an invited guest at the. dinner, and he related some of the fish and game activities the department has carried out in the last year. According to estimated census by the Ministry, the yellow pickerel population in Lake Scugog is thriving and numbers more than 75,000 fish. Large and small-mouth bass, and muskies are also doing well in Scugog, but their estimat- ed numbers are considerably less than the pickerel species. Mr. O'Donnell indicated that random checks in the Township recently show a healthy deer population. There were 136 hunters for in 1977, with "eight deer taken. There were 45-sight- ings, which is just about the same as last year. : Grouse are in abundance, with hunters usually getting their bag limit, and the Min- istry has been releasing pheasant in the Nonquon Wildlife area recently. Greenbank UCW by Mrs. Helen Thomson The Evening Unit of Greenbank U.C.W. held a morning "Coffee Party", in place of the regular evening meeting, on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd, in the Church basement. The group in charge, Betty Stone, Eunice Rahm and Shirley Lee, Warn dog owners "sr served coffee and muffins and then all took part in a lively sing-song, led by Roberta Baird and Betty Stone. After a poem by Eunice, Betty introduced Pat Green, the guest speaker. Many of the Greenbank ladies came to hear Mrs. Green speak on to purchase tags or face summons Dog owners in Scugog Township who have not paid their 1977 tag fees could be facing a court summons. By-law enforcement" officer Boh Kenny told coun- cil Monday afternoon that dog owners who haven't paid up will be issued a warning, and if they still don't pay their fees, a summons will be served by the OPP. If that happens, the dog owner will have to make a trip to Oshawa court to pay the fine and the Township feex . % A canine report released Monday for the month end- ing October 22 showed that Control Officer Ann Barrett nabbed five dogs in Scugog Township. Three were reclaimed and two were destroyed. The control officer logged 879 miles in . Scugog Township during the same period. In Uxbridge Township, Ms. Barrett picked up 22 stray dogs, 15 of which were destroyed. The Manse Committee need more money to pay the present bills and to have some money in their treas- ury for future use. Each U.C.W. in the Charge is to help with this. It was noted that Rev. Roundell has done much of this work himself, which is greatly appreciat- ed. The following motions were passed: That our group pay our share to the Manse Committee.. That the proceeds from the Arts and Crafts Show be put in the yeni Treasury until needed for a special project. That the president and two past presidents be the nominating committee. That Iva Phoenix and Ruby Dusty be a committee to visit a family who recently left Greenbank and take them a gift. That we make our annual donation of $20. each to the following; The Blind, Fred Victor Mission, Victor Home, Street Haven, and John Milton Society. Galloway, M.D., O.B.E., Executive Director of St. Joseph's Hos- pital, Hamilton, has been elected President of the , Ontario Hospital Association for the 1977-78 term.
