I want to share with you some of the prophetic explosive tendencies of the students. Our english qua- quaqua for whom the bell tolls in the Sally Ann Howell will have a new -assortment of woven bas- kets straight from the Academy. And, due to his Malaysia last week for the next four months. She wishes she could be here tonight and sends her Tonight, I'd like to give my address in two parts: the first in the form of a parody in which four of my fellow graduates will assist, and the second in the form of a traditional speech. So to set a nostalgic atmosphere, we begin tonight with a song. . Port Perry High High school lights ~ corners of our minds, Crazy, fun-packed, giddy memories of Port Perry High. Mr. Williams, Honored Guests, Ladies and Gentle- men: What I have to say this evening is summed up in four words, and strangely enough, the first letter of each word, when put to- gether spells P.P.H.S. To begin with, I'd like us to remember tonight, the PEOPLE of Port Perry High School. Our school is really made up of four groups of people, the first group being our wonderful group of teachers. These are people who have a-great Beverly A. Simmonds deal of patience and under- standing and often go the second mile to ensure that new concepts and ideas are locked into their students' minds Teachers, we ap- preciate this very much. Each graduate can recall tonight at least one unique experience or personal en- counter with each teacher I'm sure. For example, we all remember Mr. Brock or should I say, M. Chat, as he demonstrated to our grade ten french class how cats 'saute sur la table' to lap their milk, as he jurhped up on his desk. We'll never forget the distraught look on Miss Hankey's face last April Fool's Day when she saw three empty shelves in the library at 9:00 a.m. and then at 3:00 p.m. noticed a circulation desk packed to the gunnels with fiction "E-G". It was always a "hoot" and a holler in Mr. Wallace's chemistry class because of the fun-loving spirit of the teacher and the 74% $ HOME $ COTTAGE $ CAR $ TRAILER $ BOAT "INVEST NOW! Sometimes I wonder how the nerves of the flute players in the concert band ever survived last year after hours of tension won- dering whether or npt Mr. Baird's flying batoi" would hit their stands or their noses! Barb Bell made a profound discovery for Mattel Limited in Biology last year, by submitting to them a new doll: 'Davy, the Shrinkable Toye!' Stu- dent services advised those _taking Math -461 and grade thirteen Calculus to be sure to have as a pre-requisite a shorthand course. Mr. Firth, the teacher, is said to have won the world champ- ion math teachers assoc- iation speed notation contest for twelve years in a row with a record of eight chalk- boards full of the proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus in one minute twenty-three seconds. What a flash! Teachers, all of you have certainly left impressions in our minds which we will undoubtedly think of when we think of Port Perry High. But, for the time and energy you've given to us in every facet of our school life, 'the mem- bers of the graduating class express their sincere thanks to you all. A second group of very important people in Port Perpy High School is our principals, Mr. Williams, Mr. Hill, for two years - Mr. MacDonald and for three years - Mr. Moreau. I think of the time they've spent advising and disciplining us. Although we didn't always see eye to eye, or even brow to brow, we do appreciate the dedication of these four men to Port Perry High and particularly to the gradua- tes of 1977. We'd be remiss tonight, if we didn't recognize the faithful work of the secre- tarial, janitorial and cafe- teria people of our school. We certainly appreciate your devotion and service to -- us. The last group of people which make up Port Perry High School is of course the students. And the students we honor tonight are those who graduated in 1977 - iny peers. Probably, gradu- ates, during these past few weeks, experiences of the past four to six years have come to mind, like the Graduation Party last June, or egg tosses, chocolate pudding, snow sculptures at Winter Carnivals, or our excursion to Britain in 1976, "or just the creative frolic in the halls, say after a Bio- logy or Calculus exam. For those of you here who might be unaware of the potential in our class, I thought tonight, I'd let you know that the future of Port visions I have for my peers. For example, I know the Sandy Johnston will enter- tain us as the commercial girl for Compton's Cable TV., advertising that new improved Tide with enzymes, nature's biological catalyst, will wash out Dirty Larry's socks. For those moving into the Port Perry area and needing advice on interior decorating, I'm sure Rick, of Rick Cooper's locker broadlooming service will help you. There is no doubt in my mind that Neil Rodd will bring fame to Port Perry as he succeeds Howie Meeker in hockey commentating. I'm confi- dent Hoistey will be trainer in the Port Perry Zoo coaching the champion team of the Hyena Laugh- ing Association. For you literary buffs, Donna Man- derson will have published her first best-seller: My Adventures with Gumby in Chemistry 451°, - And- for those single residents of Port Perry who are seeking companionship, I'm sure the programme at Under- hill's Computer Dating Ser- vice will be beneficial. Due to the popularity of her first novel, I can see Donn Man- derson's second best- seller hot off the 'Further Adventures with Gumby in Chemistry 551'. For all of you housewives who need shopping - bags, canisters, picnic baskets or any type of container, Diane royal theatrical expertise, I can certainly picture Gord Scott as the Consort to the Mayor's wife advising her on the. latest fashions de Paris, coaching her on how to sit, how to wear her hair and definitely, how to blow smoke rings with her cigar! Whether or not these prophecies come true, we vividly remember the inci- dents behind them and will never forget them. Behind them are people. Behind them are the people of the graduating class of 77. At this point, I'd like to inter- ject greetings from a fellow graduate who is unable to be with us tonight. Sheila Warne is serving with Canada World Youth Pro- gramme and landed in thanks to the teachers and her best wishes to her fellow graduates. So, in the first place, 'P' stands for people. Secondly, I'd like us to remember a lady and - a gentleman who have prob- ably supported us the most through our whole elemen- tary and high school educa- tion. Tonight, graduates, the second 'P' stands for PARENTS and I'd like us to thank our parents because we're conscious that we couldn't have finished with- out them.
