boi dud a Increase automobile registration fees The first increase in motor vehicle registration 'ees since 1972 goes into effect December 1, 1977, Transpor- tation and Communications Minister Jatnes Snow said today. F ' The fee schedule was announced in last April's Ontario Budget, The new fees increase the cost of registration for a four- -cylinder car from $23 to $30; a six-cylinder car from $32 to $45; an eight cylinder car from $40 to $60. Motor- " eycle registration fees are up $5 from $15 to $20. In addition, any auto- mobile with an engine dis- placement of more than 6.5 litres (397 cu. in.) which is registered for the first time, will cost the owner $80. . Under the new schedule, 1978 registration fees for all privately-owned passenger cars and motorcycles in the northern half of the province have been reduced to $10. The Minister added that an amendment to the commer- cial motor vehicle fee schedule is also heing pre- pared to allow northern Ontario residents to pur- chase their 1978 annual registration for vans and nickup trucks of 5,000 pounds or less for the same fee as passenger cars - $10, provid- ing the applicants sign a personal declaration that such vehicles are used primarily for recreational purposes and private trans- portation, wc... sic The 1978 registration fee for mopeds and trailers re- mains unchanged at $5, as does the $10 fee for snow- ls ~ mobiles and historic vehic- les. The fee is the same in northern and southern Ontario. Licence renewal stickers go on sale at 311 licence issuing offices across the province December 1, 1977 and the deadline for having your new licence renewal sticker is February 28, 1978. More than 750 gifts are needed, and associ- ation volunteers will do the Christmas wrapping.
