, 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1977 Junior basketball team shows impressive form On November 22, Port Perry junior boys-defeated Thomas Stuart of Peter- borough 57-26 in basketball action at Port Perry High School. Port Perry. had de- feated this team in Peter- borough the previous week by a score of 72-51, and in the return match the Port team was determined to tighten up the defense. The Peterborough team could not handle the full court pressure and never seriously threatened the Port Perry squad. New- comer Gregg Rodd played a strong game. Top rebounder were Rodd, Burnett and Sim- monds while Gord Sim- monds and George Cope led the scorers with 15 points each. George Burnett and Greg Rodd each had ten points. On December 1, Port Perry played Stouffville and turned in the best perfor- mance so far this year. It had to be, since the Port team was playing a good senior team. Port took an early 14-6 lead. This lead did not stand up and toward the end of the 3rd quarter Stouffville, with strong re- bounding and excellent out- side shooting, jumped into a 9-1 win (continued 34-31 lead. The Port team did not roll over and play dead but tightened up the defense and forced the Stouff ville team-into a number of ball handling errors. Wade Oosterman led the comeback charge with three quick bas- kets at the start of the fourth quarter. Greg Fedyk again turned in a strong game at the guard spot. Cope, Burnett and Wilbur led the rebound- ing for Port Perry. Scott Wilbur played his best game of the season, both offen- sively and defensively. Top scorer for Port were Cope (13), Wilbur (11), Simmonds (10), Burnett (8). Exciting win for } Bantams By Todd Wilbur On November 30th, the Beare Motors boys whooped Peterborough 12 - 0.- Doug Potts lead the way with 3 goals, Brian Mikkolson with 2, Bob Horton, Pat Johnson, Mike Andrews, Donny Young, Mark Jeffery, Brian Dickson and John Bloom- field each scored one. As- ~~ Brent McMillan, Jamie Can- non and Raymond Daniels also picked up assjsts. Four penalties were assessed all to Sharon. Scoring Sharon's only goal was Colin Padley. Sunday the team headed north to Beaverton and at the final whist]e ended up with a > 2-2 tie.
