/ 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1977 Scugog Island and area news by Mrs. Earl Reader Let us correct the mistak- es or ommissions of last week regarding the bapti- sms. Two former Appleton girls and their husbands pre- sented their children. There was Kristopher David, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rodgers (Monita) of Sunrise Beach. Also Angela Marie, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cormier (Melodie) of Toronto. We believe the little Holland babys names is Kristian William. Last week was certainly a busy one for Island women. The ladies from centre and foot met at the Island Hall for their Mystery Sister supper on Wednesday night. Someone left behind a pair of brown shoes. On Thursday night the Ladies of the Head U.C.W. invited all the ladies of the Head Community to a Pot Luck supper at the Hall. Utica by Mrs. Vera Brown Church service on Sunday, December 18th will be held at Utica United Church at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Cliff Pendle- bury will be in charge of the service. New Hymn books donated by the U.C.W. will be dedicated. Sunday school will be at Utica at 10:15 a.m. In the evening at 7:30 p.m. the Sunday School will be holding their Christmas program. Please take this as an invitation to attend. The ladies of Pine Grove 'Church Auxiliary are hold- ing a Christmas Carol Ser- vice in the Pine Grove Church on Wednesday, Dec- ember 21, at 8 p.m. Mrs. Ross Parrott as soloist and the Epsom Choir and Miss Dorothy Keyzers as accom- panist, will assist with the music. You will be most welcome at this service. Due to the snow storm last Friday, the euchre to be held in the Hall had to be cancell- ed. Look for a special Christmas euchre on Decem- ber 23rd at 8:00 p.m. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Youmans on the birth of their son on Novem- ber 26th. Congratulations to Mr. Jim Mitchell who is celebrat- ing his 80th birthday. An Open house was being held today (Sunday) in his _...honour. Mrs. Phyllis Clarke spent a couple of days this past week with Mrs. Dennis ~Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. George Harper attended the Vice family Christmas gathering which was held in Solina Hall on Sunday. w= Mr. Nelson and Mr. Herb Ashton called on Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bailey on Wed- nesday. Mr. Walter Mitchell called on Mrs. J.E. Mitchell on Sunday. A speedy recovery is wish- ed for Master Paul Donnelly who was injured in a tragic snowmobile accident a week ago. Paul is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital and I am sure would appreci- ate cards from his friends. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Donnelly and family in the death of their grandson Zachary of Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. i Carre When the storm blew up, only thirty-nine ladies were brave enough to tackle the trip. However, they felt well rewarded for the variety supper, Christmas decora- tions and friendly atmos- phere along with a short program. We neglected to thank the commitee of Marion Carter, Bonny Gerrow and Helen Hortop who put so much work into it and planned it so well. We also appreciated the help from the Grace U.C.W. Apparently everyone was anxious to get on the road as two pair of black shoes were left behind. Bonnie Gerrow collected all the shoes. Then Mrs. Jim Heayn squeezed into a smaller pair of winter boots that were left in place of her own. So if you find yours a little larger than usual, will you please call Mrs. Heayn. Marion Hughes always en- and family attended a pre- sentation and reception for her mother Mrs. Jack Hinch- cliffe who has completed 40 years of teaching Sunday School at Windermere Unit- ed Church in Toronto. This was also a great day for the . family as Mrs. Carre's father Mr. Jack Hinchcliffe has just returned home after being in hospital for some time following surgery. Senior citizens by Marion King The Senior Citizens held their regular meeting at the Latcham Center with an attendance of approximate- ly seventy, which was lower than usual. We opened with the National Anthem followed by words of wel- come by our President Mac Whybrow. Congratulations were given to the Santa Claus float committee and also to the decorating commitee for the beautiful way they had decorated the Hall for Christmas dinner on. the 14th where we will have well over 100 in attendance. Entertainment will be provided by our own Senior Citizens Choir under the capable leadership of Winn Philp. Our Senior Citizens have been kept fairly active with a bus trip to Lindsay Academy Theatre to see Oklahoma, a bus trip to Royal Winter Fair and an upcoming bus trip to People's Church to see the Living Christmas tree on December 18. Bus to leave I.G.A. store at 5 0'clock. Marjory Whipper and Bessie McCullough, along with the entertainment Cominittee will be respons- ible for our New Years Eve party Dec. 31 at 8 o'clock at the Latcham Center. Lunch was served by Mrs. . Bell's group and a nice , social time enjoyed. If you would like to keep active, while growing older, join our an Citizens group and stay young longer. Square dancing, choir, bus trips and plays are all part of our fun for all. joys winter and snow but on the way home she and her husband with Lenore Blue- man found it could be very frustrating when it gets in your way and won't let you out of your car. By Sunday everyone was able to travel again, when the Island Church was found to be in readiness for the Evening Christmas program by the Sunday school. Prince Albert orchestra again favoured us with their talents. There were many white gifts presented by the I BUSINESS DIREGTWRY children. We certainly appreciated the vocal trio by Mrs. Bruce Snelgrove, Mrs. George Freeman and Mrs. John Beckett. Edna is dis- playing more and more of her musical ability. We can see when she retires that her life will be anything but dull. Rev. Linstead said he has done considerable visiting in the hospital and is sorry if he missed some. He wished to convey best Christmas wishes to all. He expects to be on vacation during Janu- ary when Rev. C. Clarke will be available to us for all services. When it was time for the evening program we found the parking space had been well cleaned to accomodate all the people who filled the church. There were many new people present as we now have a nice new crop of little ones attending and taking part.
