Friday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Wilbur and boys were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beare and Paula from Oshawa. This was a busy weekend for the Wilbur family, Scott spent Friday and Saturday playing in the basketball tournament in Sudbury. They came home as consola- tion champions. Todd played hockey in the Camp- bellford Tournament on Saturday and were accom-. panied by his parents to that. Early Sunday morn- ing they journeyed to Port Hope where Lee took park in the Atom tournament. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Carre and family visited and Mrs. Jim market on Sunday. Sunday evening they were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. John Croxall and girls. On Sunday, January 8th, the Lake Scugog Historical Society Choir held a pot luck supper at the Oddfellow's Hall. ' About 65 members and their families gathered for a sumptuous meal which was enjoyed by-all. Following the supper, movies were shown of the Choir's latest production "Happy Holiday' and tapes of the show were played. This was followed by a short meeting which ended a very pleasant evening. The strong, blustery winds prevailing lately has certain- ly given the proud Canadian flag on the Municipal build- ing a real beating. It's completely in shreds, and doesn't look very proud anymore. Around The Township Tuesday, December 27th, proved to be an evening of surprises for Bob Elliot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Elliot, Manchester. Upon returning home after a surprise family - dinner, Bob found about 40 friends hiding in cup- boards, behind furniture, up- stairs, etc. The group had all left their cars well down the concession road to insure the element of surprise. The occasion being the celebrat- ion of Bob's 21st birthday. Tickets are now on sale for the January 20th concert in Town Hall 1873. Bladistock by Mrs. Pat Fletcher At the Blackstock Unit- ed Church a special service was held on Sunday, when five young people joined the Church on Proffession of Faith. © They were Tim Cochrane, Tracey Coch- rane, Alen Ferguson, Eliza- - bath Keely and Kelly McLaughlin. Also received by transfer was Mrs. Geo. Cochrane. Rev. Victor Par- sons preached an excellent sermon on "Living Faith". A fine congregation attend- ed this inspiring service. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wheeler, Tim and David returned home Monday fol- lowing a two week vacation "in Florida. Improved health is wished for the following people in Hospitals. Mr. Tennyson: Samells, Mr. and Mrs. Nor-: 'Green in Port Perry, Mrs. {Gladys Thompson and Mr. Ivan Thompson in Oshawa General Hospital. A few relatives and neighbours enjoyed an afternoon tea with Mrs. Roy Taylor at her home on Saturday in honour of her 80th birthday. Rev. and Mrs. Victor Parsons, Mrs. Henry Visser, Gail Malcolm, Mrs. V. Bailey attended the Pat Luck dinner of the Histori- cal Choir held at the LIO.F. Hall in Port Perry on Sunday evening. ' 'Womens Institute The January meeting of the Blackstock -W.I. was held in the Community Hall on January 4th at 1 p.m. Twenty ladies including several visitors enjoyed delicious: desserts provided by the group in charge. The meeting + opened with the singing of the Ode accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Wilson at the piano followed by the Collect in unison. Mrs. Skelding welcomed everyone and Mrs. S. Van- Camp read the minutes and correspondence which in- cluded several thank you 'notes and the treasurers report was given, The roll call, a story of horse and buggy days was well answered by all includ- ing some interesting inci- dents of those by-gone days, - Mrs. Arnold Taylor showed a thirty minute film entitled the Oshawa Kid, it was on the life of Sam McLaughlin. The film is the property of the High School and is well worth seeing. Muriel Hos- kin was convenor of the Program which was "Family Affairs" and the motto - Feed the family what they requre not what they desire. Mrs. S. VanCamp gave highlights of the Area Con- vention of which she was a delegate and a short talk on Social Services which are available in this area. Several ladies brought arti- cles to show their hobbies which were enjoyed. Winners at the Senior Citi- zens Card Party with 13 tables were: 1st' - Flossie "Aldred, 84; 2nd - Will Ford- er, 80; 3rd - Ella Venning, 80; 4th - Carl Avery, 78; 5th -- Adam Sharp, 77; 6th - Doug Brock, 76.
