The new president, Mrs. Helen Hortop, very capably ~ conducted her first meeting of her 2 year term of office. Clara Dowson's group had eo Very appropiately chosen a' study to inspire members for a fresh start in the new year and was entitled "Turn a New Page". Appreciation notes were received from Mrs. Lillian Eastwood and Mrs. Mabel Graham for Christmas re- membrances. The Island _ hall Board sent a card of ap- " inspiring and comic read- preciation for the new stove which had been purchased by our group. It was learned. that during vacation, two of our mem- bers had cut themselves rather badly while working with knives. We hope the damage is all healed now for Mrs. Mable Graham and e Mrs. Joyce Heayn. Representatives are re- quested to attend the "lead- ership" meeting on Feb. 8 and an Executive meeting on 'Thurs. evening of Jan. 19. No activities are planned yet. But the Feb. meeting will be held a week late as "Grace" U.C.W. hopes to have a euchre and bake auction in the Island Hall on Feb. 1 Two ladies are still hold- ing footwear that does not belong to them, as it.was left at the Hall in Dec. after the Women's suppers. So if: you are missing a pr. of black shoes please call Mrs. Don Gerrow. Mrs. Jim Heayn would like to get her own size 7% winter books back. They are low, blu.ck suede with white trim. The size 7 pair that was left for her, are tight and too high in the heel. Please call her and make the trade back again. Beryl Pearce and Clara Dowson had chosen fitting, ings: 'Memory Garden", "The Day After Christmas' and "Growing Old' which does have its joys and com- pensations. Myrtle Manns conducted a contest requir- ing answers pertaining to the human body with Len- ore Blueman and Reta Reader as winners. Many used stamps were collected? It was noted that several members had a perfect attendance during 1977. Many residents - have chosen Jan. to get away from the weather . while others delight in the winter sports and scenery. Referee assaulted A 37-year-old Fenelon Falls man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm following an attack on the referee of a hockey game at the New Scugog Arena in Port Perry Sunday morning. David Leonard Nicholls, of 208 Ellice Street in Fenelon ® Falls, will appear in Whitby court February 10 after he allegedly attacked Sean Taylor of Port Perry who was refereeing a Lakeshore League hockey game be- tween Rockburn and Sonya. The accused was a member of the Sonya team, and the attack on the referee allegedly took place after a dispute over a penalty call. The weather has been dis- couraging for Church atten- dance on the Island this year. At the Island Church, Rev. Clarke announced the "Ecumenical" service to take place in Port Perry Sunday evening and asked the children to report the meaning of the word next Sunday. Rev. Clarke is taking a study on the book of "Revelation" the one which has been difficult to understand. We were very pleased to. have Mrs. Linda Sutherland lead the Church music on the piano and realize that she has chosen to share her talents with us. I recently took great interest in receiving a cal- endar from the People's Church in Toronto. It gives a history of the develop ment from 1915 to the pres- ent. Their present building seats' 2500 people. . They have 241 Elders and 17 Dea- cons, (all men). They have 436 missionaries working in 70 countries and in 1977 and 1978 are raising over $1Y million dollars for Missions. There will be a Congrega- tional meeting at "Grace" United Church on Tues. evening Jan. 24. This is for everyone, not just Official Boards. Come and learn what is being done and bring your suggestions for improvements. During a regular service we don't get much chance to converse with newcomers. Therefore please accept this invitat- ion to come along and get acquainted during a social period. Let's give 1978 a boost toward greater results. : Car Care Specializing in: e ON-CAR WHEEL BALANCING o MINOR REPAIRS & TUNE-UPS o OIL CHANGE & LUBRICATION o FRONT END & BRAKE REPAIR o TIRE SALES & SERVICE (New & Used Tires) [We Now Have | NO-LEAD GAS Monday to Friday 80am to? 00pm Salurday -8:00am 106 0p m Sunday - 10 a.m. 109.00 p.m Accepted Credit Cards MASTER CHARGE TEXACO - CHARGEX TAYLOR'S TEXACO Corner of Union &'7A Hwy. 985-3655 pEnEAGEN! hes | "The @® Regittered trademark of Drug Trading Co.
