". The program will start with the business of the annual meeting at 11 o'clock in the morning, and following lunch, there will be a guest speaker, Mr. Bruce Cook, Sales Manager, Elanco Products Division - Eli Lilly & Company Limited. Mr. Cook's talk will be on the use of Rumensin in beef' cattle feeding. Rumensin is a new feed additive that has just recently been licensed for sale in Canada. Feeding trials have indicated that this product will give a 10 per cent improvement in feed efficiency. Also on the program, Mr. Gus Lask, Provincial Director, will give a report on activities of the Provincial Association. Noon lunch will be provided with the cost of the lunch being covered in the annual membership fee. All interested cattlemen are invited to attend. PORK AND BEEF OUTLOOK According to the information from the Meat Packers Council of Canada, a 10 per cent increase in supply of hogs and pork appears likely in 1978. This is expected to bring a progressive weakening in prices as output rises. Increased numbers of heavier hogs are also possible with changes that took place in the hog carcass indexing table on January 2nd. This can mean more pork on the market because for every 5 lb. increase in average carcass weights, the supply increases 3 per cent. " 1978 cattle slaughter is expected to be down, perhaps by as much as 4 to 6 per cent from 1977 levels. Stronger prices in the first half compared to a year ago age being forecast, but there is still some doubt that the last half prices will top 1977 levels to any great extent. HOLSTEIN CLUB ANNUAL MEETING#, Of interest to Holstein Breeders will be the annual meeting of the Ontario County Holstein club, which will be held in the Manchester Hall, on Saturday, January 28th, beginning at 10:30 in the morning. The guest speaker on this occasion will be Mr. Bruce Reid, President of the Holstein Friesian Associ- ation of Canada. Brucellosis has caused a great deal of concern among cattle owners during the past couple of years, and speaking on this topic will be Dr. Robert McCrae, Veterinarian, Port Perry. SAFETY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Ontario County Farm Safety Association was held recently at the Agricul- tural Office, Uxbridge, at which time projects com- pleted in 1977 were reviewed, and plans were made for projects to be undertaken in 1978. One of the most successful projects carried out last year was the annual safety poster competition in the rural schools with a total of 534 pupils taking part. This will be one of the projects to be undertaken again in 1978. Other projects included a 4-H safety meeting, safety quiz in the annual Junior Farmer and 4-H Judging Competition, and a Junior Farmer Tractor Safe Driving Competition at Beaverton Fair. It is expected that these projects will also be continued in the new year. . . The Safety Association is again planning on making No Rider stickers available to farm machinery dealers throughout the area for use on farm tractors, and a supply of No Smoking signs is on hand in the Agricultural Office at no charge for those who require them. Safety serviettes are also available for use at banquets and meetings. Officers elected for 1978 are Chairman - Ron Deeth, R. R. 2, Port Perry, and Secretary - Ivan Bell, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Uxbridge. The immediate Past Chairman is Mr. Jack Switzer, R.R. 1, Beaverton. ) LOANS "No Salary Requirements.
