On board were deckhands Gordon Robertson, Theresa Sears, John Taylor, David Switzer, pianist Paul Shilton and musician Michael Myers, all captained by Val Robertson. This bubbly crew swabb- ed History's decks, pirated Peter Pan, sunk Shakes- peare, harpooned a Moby Jane, Mae West style and, to the tune of Viking Doll, sounded Fjord's Better Idea: swain Taylor will never need a masseuse. The original material by Switzer and Sears ranged from Sears' bored British Cleopatra fondled by a tremulous Antony {down- played by Taylor, a re- strained suicide to his credit) as they barged down the Nile, speare's Compleat Works, all thirty-seven represented in a bouillabaisse of puns (would you belive "Julius sees her?"') saltily served to some very fancy deckshoe footwork by Salt Petre (Switzer . in Sou'Wester, Stetson, and Western drawl) as he heisted his spinna- ker for a prairie sail-off with Taylor. Switzer's Queen Isabella is not soon to be forgotten either, nor are Robertson's roamin' mobster 'Boots' or clawful Captain Hook. through Shake- - boned duis decnsd aac Jia PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1978 -- 9 Port and Starboard, the lighting™ was' subdued; effective, the interview spots especially so, and the musical set pieces and accompaniment by Myers on guitar and Shilton on the electric piano rippled silkily along throughout the show. As the ensemble swung into the finale 'Don't hold me back, I've got to go wher- ever the water goes', the landlubbing audience could- "n't help buf borrow a phrase' from the song 'it makes you high". Town Hall 1873 patrons crested on that wave of fun, enthusiasm, wit, and just plain talent provided for them by Theatre 5, a fitting initiation of the Hall's new, enlarged stage facilities and close to this year's varied Subscription Programme. cleanser.
