Port Perry Minor Hockey Association hosted the Lions Club Annual Atom Tourna- ment in the new arena on Saturday. Play started at 8 a.m, with Uxbridge and. Little Britain fighting it .out. Little Britain came out on top by a score of 3-2 on a 3 * goal performance by Kevin Carle. Assists going to » Prins, Brown and Webster. Uxbridge got their goals from Pinder assisted by Sean Convery and Smith with an unassisted tally. Game 2 saw the Oshawa Canadians beat Beaverton 2-1. Both goals for Oshawa were scored by Todd Bas- tarache with Cruse getting an assist. Beaverton's goal came from Paul Fisher with the assist going to Vester- guard. Port Perry's Malmont Farms took the ice next, against a strong Port Hope squad. Port came out on top 2-1 on goals from Craig Menzies and Jeff Cox with assists going to Dickson (2), Cox and Menzies. Port Hope's tally was scored by Jim Brown unassisted. This was a great effort by the local boys who were beaten 4-1 in their last encounter, with-Port Hope. Malmont Farms were now on their way. to the championship. The fourth game of the day saw Orono down Stouff- ville by a score of 2-1. Orono's goals. by Vey un- assisted and Henry with assists to Dreslinski and Vey. Stouffville's lone counter was by Murphy assisted by Conway. The consolation semi-final saw Uxbridge down Beaver- ton 4-1 to eliminate them from further play. Ux- bridge goals were scored by Smith, Pinder, Sean Convery and McNeill with assists to Harris and Smith. Beaver- ton's tally was by Fisher assisted by Brown. The 1st championship semi-final was closely con- tested with Oshawa Canadians downing Little Britain 2-1. . Scoring for Oshawa were Bastarache and Allen, hoth unassisted. Little Britain replied in period three with a goal wok Kevin Carle assisted by Todd Teel. Port Hope net Stouffville in . the 2nd cdnsolation semi- finals. Port Hope replied when Jim - Brown scored from Regan Brown, It was the local boys turn to compete in the champion- ship semi-final against Orono. Port came out on top in yet another very tight' game by a scoré of 2-1. Malmont Farms tallied in the first period on a goal by - Jeff Wray assisted by Dick- -son and Cox. Orono tied it in ~ period two when Henry scor- ed assisted by King and Dreslinski. Port went ahead to stay when Jeff Cox fired one home after some good play by Tobin and Fred Cockerton. This was .an excellent game-in which the local boys all gave their best. The consglation final saw ~~ Uxbridge lined up against Stouffville. This was the only one-sided game of the day. Uxbridge scored a runaway victory 8 goals to 0. Scoring were Sean Convery (3) and an assist, Kevin Smith (2) and an assist, Pinder (2) and an assist and Tim Harris with a goal and an assist. Congratulations Uxbridge. The Championship final was between Oshawa Cana- dians and our local Malmont Farms. This was an out- standing game and classic end to an excellent tourna- ment. Port opened the scor- ing in period two at 6:41 on fine goal by Jeff Wray after Craig Menzie and Mike Dickson kept Oshawa tied up in their own end for almost a minute. Oshawa came back at 3:58 in the third period to tie the game. This was a good three-way play by Bas- tarache and Gartshore to Cruise who put it in the net. The rest of the game was end to end with both goalies making some big saves. In this period Port were start- ing to show the effects of a long day and a tough playoff game the previous night. However, they managed to hang on to end regulation time with a 1-1 tie. The game was now into a 10 minute overtime period. Play start- ed at a fast pace, end to end with goalies playing very well. This almost did it, with Dickson hitting the post -after a good pass from Cox, with only 38 seconds remain- ing. Fortunately for Oshawa they managed to avoid being scored upon, which would have forced a shoot-out. Tough week Port. This was a gallant effort from Malmont Farms who were without Jeff Cockerton out with a broken arm and Clay Dempsey out with bruised ribs.
