Exhibition games for RY PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 8, 1978 -- 19 PeeWees overtime win ties Lakefield by Bob Storry The Pee Wee Legionaires on the brink of elimination in their, quarter finals with Lakefield staged an exiting last minute come-back to win 6 to 5 in overtime. Down 2 games to 0 in their best of 'five series, Port - scored twice in the final minute of overtime at home on Wednesday night to'gain the victory and then went back to Lakefield on Sunday where they came from behind 4 to 1 to get a 4 to 4 tie. On Wednesday at home 'Lakefield jumped into a 2 to 0 lead but Port fought back to tie the game early in the second period on goals by Jones from' Lee and Young and Johnstone from Foote and Vaz. Lakefield scored goal number 3 at the 12:24 mark of the second period and at 9:46 Young from Jones again got Port back on even terms. After playing super hoc- key Port Perry won this game with a score of 4-1. Scoring for. Port Perry were Desautels from Dick- --~ son; Dickson from Steven- son and DeHaas; Ferguson from Long and Pratt; and Pratt from Ferguson. On March 4, Port Perry's Stone Real Estate Pee Wees travelled to Meaford to par- ticipate in a two-day tour- nament. First game, Port Perry played against Bradford. Port Perry was weak, both offensively and defensively. Bradford took this game with a score of 4-0. Sunday, March 5, Port Perry played their second 'game of the tournament against Sarnia Township. Port Perry played hard and played great hockey, both offensively and defen- sively, as well as super goal tending by Paul Bateman. * Port Perry came out on top with a win of 4-1. Scoring for Port Perry were Desautels, 2, and Pratt, 2. Assists going to Pratt, 1; Ferguson, 2; Long, 2; Stevenson, 1; and Dick- son, 1. Winning this game gave them the chance to play Consolation game. One hour later Pert Perry teamed up against Hanover for the Consolation game. Hanover controlled the play through most of the game. Even though goal- tender Paul Kingston, made some super saves, Hanover managed to get five goals past him to win the game. Port Perry not getting near as many shots on Hanover's goaltender, only got -two goals. Hanover, winning this game with a score of 5-2, received the Consolation trophy. Scoring for Port Perry in this game were Desautels from Fratt; and Ferguso from Cleveland. RY Pacers lead in Bancroft series by Glenn Geer On Tuesday, Feb. 28 the Grant Menzies Pacers Midget 1 club travelled to Bancroft to play the second game of their best of five quarter-finals and come home with a five to three overtime victory and a two game to nothing lead in the series. Raymond "Gibson was the big man for the Pacers in this game coming up with many big saves to keep his team-mates in the game. It was one all after the first period with Robert Kemp scoring for the Big Red Machine and Clark Menzies scored in the second period to give the Pacers a two to one lead after thirty minutes of play. Bancroft came out in the third and jumped into a three to two lead -but with nine seconds left in the game George Burnett scor- ed to send the match into overtime where the Pacers played their best hockey with Dennis Franssen and George Burnett scoring to ensure the victory. On Saturday, March 4 the Grant Menzies Pacers travelled to Lindsay to enter in annual Midget Tournament but they didn't have a good day losing both their games, three to one to Oshawa and two to nothing to Lindsay. Clark Menzies and Dennis Franssen scored the Big Red Machines goals in the tournament. Port got one back before the Period ended with Young scoring from Jones. Port got the only two goals in the third period, the first one scored by Young from Vaz and the second by Kane from Burnett.
