Now Bradley has a new sister. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tapscott of Markham = who celebrated their 60th wedding anniver- sary on Sunday. Mr. Tap- scott is a patient in Centenn- ary Hospital, Scarborough. The nurses Kindly co- operated and the family en- joyed the wedding cake. Flowers brightened the room for the many numbers of the family,who gathered to mark the occasion. .On Sat. the Tapscott family had met and taken the mother to dinner as it was her birthday. We are pleased that she was well enough to enjoy these cele- brations. Last Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Potter to help celebrate Christopher's birthday. On Sun. evening Mr. and Mrs. Potter and boys enter- tained Mr. and-Mrs. Walter Kerry and family. We are pleased to learn that Mr. Wm. Stearman is "improving after surgery in Uxbridge hospital. We are planning our annual Good Friday Morning breakfast at the Church, March 24 at 8:30 am. follow- ed by a brief worship ser- vice. At our last W.I. we were pleased to know Mrs. Ben DeBoer had returned safely _ from a vacation with her parents in Holland. It was the Legion' s -annual public speaking contest, and the winners will now advance to the Zone Finals, being held in Bowmanville on March 12th. If any of the local delegates are fortunate enough to win in Bowmanville they will be given the opportun- ity of competing at the District Finals in Port Hope on April 6. Successful contestants from this competition will advance to the Provincial Finals. Winners of last Sunday's competitions are picturéd above with (back left) Ross Weir, Royal Canadian Legion Public Relations officer; Grades 4-6 - Craig Paisley, 11, of Cartwright Central speaking on "World Records", took first place with second going to Cathy Paisley and third to Debbie Van Camp. The junior boys basketball team finished a successful season last Sat- urday in Peterborough, by winning the C.0.S.S.A. championship. Mike, Barton travelled to Waterloo to represent the school in the final round of the wrestling tournament last Friday. Mike made an excellent showing by plac- ing in the O0.F.S.S.A. semi- finals on Saturday, but was beaten in the final round by a member of the Western Ontario team. We are for- tunate to have such a winn- er in grade nine. If we're lucky we can keep him around gathering medals for the next four years! Our thanks to all wrestl- ers and basketballs! Port- High's, swim team put forth a number of excel- lent showings in the pool this year, making it a first for P.P.H.S. They brought home ribbons from 'every meet. We sent Sherri Allen and Lorrie Miller to C.0.S.S.A. in. Belleville in the 50 freestyle and 400 free- style events respectively.
