- By Bob Storry At the start of each hockey season every Pee Wee's dream is an O.M.H.A. All- Ontario Championship. A close second wish is a group championship at Goderich, "Home of the Biggest Little Hockey Tournament in the World". The Port Perry Pee Wee Legionaires this past week attended the "Goderich Lions Young Canada Week" where they won the Group B championship in Goderich's 29th annual tournament. A total of 62 teams com- peted throughout the week. The teams are classified by population and Port Perry were in Group "B" (pop. 3,000 to 7,499). The 14 teams in Group B were from Han- over, Mooretown, Exeter, Listowel, Unionville, St. Mary's, Woodbridge, Street- sville, Kincardine, Tillson- burg, London, Flamboro, Port Perry and Mount Forest. ' March 22nd, in their first game, Port bombed Mount Forest, 13 to 0. To quote the Y.C.W. Daily News, "Mount Forest didn't have many opportunities to score as Port Perry played a flawless offensive and defensive game". The Legionaires outshot Mount Forest, 45to 5. Johnstone and Lane were the big shooters each with a hat trick and Martens had four big assists. March 23rd, in their second game, the Légion- aires were hard pressed to defeat London Minors, 5 to 4. Shots on goal were Port Perry 17, London 16. The game was just as close as the score and shots on goal would indicate. The teams - took turns dominating the play. The big play of the game for Port was made by Kane late in the final period when he cleared a puck out of the goal crease as it head- ed for the goal line after slip- ping past Jackman, in goal. Scoring for Port were Lee from Jones, Young unassist- ed, Jones from Lee and Bur- nett, Goreski from Young, and Young from Jones. March 25th, in the Cham- pionship game, Port defeat- ed an aggressive, hard hit- ting Mooretown Club, 4 to 1. Port made the most of their scoring opportunities and generally outplayed Moore- town for the first two periods, building up a 3 to 0 lead. Mooretown narrowed the gap to 3 to 1 when they poked a rebound by Jack- man; however, Port got this one back before the period ended and the teams went to the dressing room at the end of the second period with Port leading 4 to 1. There was no scoring in. the third period. Mooretown really put the pressure on Port in this period hemming Port in their own end for minutes at a time. They finally got one past Jackman but an alert referee ruled no goal as their player kicked the puck into the net during a goalmouth scramble. Jack- man made several key saves PTET TERRE nnn mmmes . ® Free Installation Mufflers & Monroe Shocks Cars & Trucks EU SPRING TIME IS ... HOME /w GOT MUFFLER PROBLEMS? In the previous 20-odd years that Port Perry has Novice win one game in Uxbridge tourney by D. Kendall Saturday morning bright and early the Merscos jour- neyed to Uxbridge to parti- cipate in the annual Ux- bridge Novice tournament. By the luck of the draw our first game put us against the home town crew and Port defeated the Uxbridge bunch 3 to 0. Sharing the shut out were Mark Kendall and Steve Whalen. Scoring for the Merscos was by Michael Gibson assisted by Steve Durham, Brian Dean unassisted and Dave Bur- nett assisted by Warren Geer. The next game saw the team against that hard hitt- ing, fast skating club from Stouffville. The boys from Stouffville took us to the y "ALUMINUM SIDING When Men & Material are Available! Port tried to stay with this fast skating club and were dishing out their fair share of checks. Stouffville really knew they had played to win the game. Well done boys. Our season is fast draw- ing to a close and the boys in orange have one more tournament to participate in and that is in Keene on April 1. Good luck boys in this endeavour. PeeWees Continued game beyond the reach of the Stone Gang with the final score being 7 to 1 for Port Hope. On Sunday, March 26, the Stone Real Estate Pee Wee's met Elmvale in the consol- ation final of the Elmvale Tournament. The boys put out a good effort but were taken soundly by a physic- ally bigger Elmvale team. The final score was 6 - 1 for Elmvale with Mike Pratt scoring the loan marker for Port from Kevin Ferguson - and Vaughan -McKee.- All is not over yet, the Stone Gang are in the Ux- bridge Tournament which will be held April 1. They are convinced that they will come up a winner in this _ tourney. Good Luck, boys!
