Al2 kitchen cup- Scugog Island By Mrs. Earl Reader There will be a musical concert at the Island Church, Thursday, April 20. There- fore there will be about three practice periods for Junior and Senior Choirs. This means a serious practice. Any boy or girl under 16 or 18 who would like to take part in the Junior choir, please be at the Church ready to pract- ice by 6:30 on Thursday evening. Parents will please pick them up at 7:30 as Senior' Choir starts at that time. It isn't often that a father and daughter are in hospital at the same time except through an accident. But it happened that Mrs. Bonnie Bell and her father, Percy Jeffrey, both had operations in the Oshawa Hospital and are still there. Bonnie suf- fered considerable discom- fort for some days prior to surgery. We trust they are both over the worst part and will soon recuperate. The 'Head' U.C.W. meets tonight at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Manns. Don't forget your bale items. We'll be planning the Art and Craft ! show. So plan to be present. The "Grace"- U.C.W. will also meet tonight at the home of Mrs. Madeline Caw- ker. They have the hot luncheon to plan. Watch the paper for further details on _ both events for April 22. We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Joan Aldred's mother, Mrs. Ada Pearson of Oshawa, is in the hospital with pneumonia. We are very interested in her wel- fare and recovery. Her cheery and plucky personal- ity makes her loved by all who know her, Mrs. Pearson was a life long friend of Mrs. Ethel Redman after they came to Canada in their youth. Therefore, she spent much time on the Island and showed a great interest in the people, the church and various activities. We know she is getting good care and we trust 'in a speedy recovery. Mrs. Allene Kane is back in Port Perry hospital to get a check on her respiratory problem. However, - they allowed her out for Saturday evening to help celebrate her' own 25th Wedding Anniver- sary at the Island Commun- ity. Among the' guests were Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Sweetman of Toronto. On behalf of the Island people we convey best wishes to two life long resid- ents Mr. and Mrs. Don Crozier as they celebrate their 40th Wedding anniver- sary this coming Saturday. Mrs. Nellie Miller has been spending a few days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cliff Love. On Sunday, someone must have lost a long-loved pet as a medium-sized, charcoal coloured dog was picked up on the causeway. Perhaps it wandered away from a cot- tage, out onto the ice or was visiting Prentice"s Maple Syrup Festival as others were seen. 'Th€ man and his "wife who picked this dog up were very concerned for its welfare and made several inquiries to locate its owner. If you think it may be yours, youmay call him at 986-4670. At the musical concert, we hear there is going to be a fashion show and compet- ition for homemade hats, first for girls over six, and girls under six with their mothers. Even if your chil- dren haven't been coming to Sunday School you may still compete. You may start the hat with any type of found- ation and end up with any one of the four following categories: large, fancy, comic and most original. If you have questions, please phone Mrs. Bob Cawker. It will be necessary to have the names of competitors and descriptions of hat for com- mentator. On - Sunday, the Island Church welcomed Rev. Clarke back from his lengthy vacation in the south. There was the highest attendance of the year, and the Sunday School was a lively place. Both Rev. Linstead and Rev. Clarke remarked on the high attendance in the Florida Churches they visited. Rev. Clarke reviewed the events of the first Easter Sunday and the following week when Jesus appeared to his Disciples in the Upper Room, where they had met in terror and uncertainty, wondering what might happen to them. Mr. Clarke emphasized the -reaction of the doubting Thomas who was honest enough to ex- press his feelings, yet went the whole way once he became sure. When God wants to use us, how do we respond? Mr. and Mrs. Max Stich- mann are well settled in their home again after spending the winter in Florida. On Friday, Mrs. Bonnle Gerrow is flying to Saskat- chewan with her three sis- ters to help celebrate their mother's. 90th - birthday. - on -- April 14.
