wR ASST) Be Sr ahs Tor Le a hl AEWA Do you know that last year the Scugog Public. Library loaned out more than 46,000 books? That's an increase of al- most 8,000 books over 1976. Business at the library on Queen Street in Port Perry has been brisk. In fact, librarian Grace Milne says that over the past three or four years, the cir- culation of books has increa- sed every month. In 1977 the number of registered borrowers reach- ed 3,228 as opposed to 2,553 the previous year. To keep up with the inter- a est and the. demand-that Scugog- residents ~have for their library, new books are being added all the time. A total of 1,727 adult books and 891 children's books were added to the shelves. In 1976 the figures were 1,304 adult and 810 children's bopks. Part of the reason for this heightened interest in books _ is the increase in population in this area, and since the formation of Regional government, the Library now officially serves all of Scugog Township. A second, and possibly more important reason, is Ruth Ware, and the other Scugog librarians are kept busy with the flow of books and magazines at the library. for Rent available for June 1978 occupancy MODEL SUITE open for inspection | Saturday & Sunday Only | Commencing April 29th and 30th | i FOR INFORMATION CALL MRS. In addition to the material on hand at the Library, a registered borrower has ac- cess to the books of some 20 libraries from Mississauga to Oshawa that make up the Central Ontario Regional Library System. This is possible through an inter-library indexing and lending system which works like this: a borrower wants a certain book that Scugog does not have. Through the index the book is located in one of the CORL members and an order is placed for the loan. CORL maintains its own courier truck which Ply comes Into Scugog five days a week so an order for a book through the inter-library lending system can usually be completed in less than a week. Last year Scugog borrowers used the lending system 380 times, And this can bé extended even further afield. If a book cannot be located among the CORL members a request for the loan canbe placed in any library in Canada. Books have come to Scugog on loan from as far away as Vancouver and Halifax. Through a similar lending system the library has ac- cess to several hundren 16 mm films. The library has a screen which can be borrow- ed for nothing and a pro- jector for which there is a small service charge.
