18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, aor. 12, 1978 BEY, a py HN, Legionaires end successful season Drop final game in Uxbridge tourney by Bob Storry The Pee Wee Legionaires wrapped up their hockey season on April 2nd with a good effort in the annual Uxbridge Pee Wee tourna- ment. Port defeated a scrappy Uxbridge no. 2 team 4 to 2 in their first game. Scoring for the Legionaires were Vaz from Johnstone, Young unassisted. Young, from Vaz and Johnstone, ahd Lee unassisted. . In their second game Port met Schomberg and came up with 'a solid two way game. Port shut out Schomberg 5 to 0. Scoring for Port were Vaz from - Goreski and Young, Young from Vaz, Johnstone from Goreski and Vaz, Johnstone again from Goreski and Vaz and finally Lee from Young. In the championship game Port lost 5 to 4 in overtime to a big strong skating. Ajax team. Port jumped into an early 3 to 0 lead but Ajax kept coming on and regulation time end- ed up with the teams tied at 4 to 4. Ajax scored the winner early in a five minute sudden death over- time period. Scoring for Port were Jones from Lee, Lee from Jones and Young, Young unassisted and Goreski from Lee. The Legionaires played 46 games this season, winning 32, losing 10 and tying 4. The team scored 231 goals and had 137 scored against them. They were Lake- shore Group 2 Champs in the 0.M.H.A. playdowns, losing out to Lakefield in the quarter finals. They were tournament champs at Sutton and Goderich and Consolation winners at Lakefield. Congratuations boys on a pretty successful sedson. These finals produced some very excit- ing hockey. In the first game of the day, the Pee Wee series was extended to an extra game as Frank Real Estate de- feated Wes Lane 3-0. Tim Wilson, Ray Miesner and Neil Locke scored for Frank with Locke picking up a single assist. Luke Vanryswyk had a standout game in the nets for Frank. In the Bantam series, Cochranes Trotters were the league champs with a 6-2 victory over Consumers Gas. Consumers opened the scoring on a goal by Simon Brierly assisted by Phil Bower. Cochranes came back with 6 straight goals. Steve MacGregor recorded the hattrick with Tim Bouw- meester, Bob Felstead and Al Ferguson adding singles. Mike Gundry scored Con- - sumers last goal to make the final 6-2. . U.A.W. won the Atom div- ison with a 5-2 victory over | Marj Tripp. Willie Ed- wards and Kevin Jackson had 2 goals each while Greg Warriner had a single. Warriner also had 4 assists. Mike Linnington and Mark Bouwmeester replied for Marj Tripp. In the Novice series Kins men won the championship over Reliable Plumbing * with a 3-2 victory. In the deciding game of the Pee Wee series' West Lane took the championship on a 2-1 squeaker. Frank scored first on a goal by Bob Hoogeveen assisted by Kilvin Gibson. Steve Atchi- "son scored both goals for Wes Lane, one in the 2nd, one in the 3rd. Dave Kemp picked up the single assist.
