Please don't forget to bring an item for the Hospital Spring Fair on Mary 27. °° On Tuesday evening, Churches of the Oshawa Presbytery were well repre- sented at the Island United ¢ Churches. Though winter returned on Thursday evening, it did not discourage an- interested audience from attending the musical concert presented by approximately 40 mem- bers of Sr. Choir, Jr. Choir and Sunday School when they sang several swinging ngs from Oklahoma and fons other favourites. The instrumental accompani- ment by Edna Beckett, Bob Cawker and Geo. Freeman supplied the extra touch. For jocularity, we can al- v [C66 66 Po Y Pharmacy. Free- man and son Michael to add some lighter moments for laughter. The fashions in a hat parade by children or mother and daughter reflect- ed much imagination, plan- ning and work. The whole concert amazed us as to what was accomplished in such a short time of practis- ing. We cannot express enough appreciation to the leaders. By Saturday the weather gave perfect co-operation for a successful day at the centre of the Island for the U.C.W.'s to produce a very satisfying hot lucheon, fol- lowed by the extremely interesting Art and Craft show at the Community Hall. We are so pleased with the interest and co-operation shown by members, exhib- itors, demonstrators and the public. We wish to give special congratulations to Lynette Jackson and Sandra Heayn for winning first prize on their Science project named "Woodlands", then also to Lynette for winning first in a gymnastic competition" and second in singing at Sunder- land. We believe other Island children won prizes at the Science Fair but we do not have all their names. We understand Mrs. Lil Brown had a fall in which she received injuries requiring hospitalization. We trust she will soon recover and be on her feet again. A good number attended Sunday service on the Island. We welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Mooney and family from Brougham. Many chil- dren were present to enjoy Rev. Linstead's story before going to classes. He told of a * little boy in China who had a very wicked father who made a practice of stealing from people on the road. However, he did want some advantages for his son and sent him to the mission school to learn reading. But he didn't hesitate to steal money, books and clothes from a missionary. One day when the boy wanted reading material, he was handed a book that opened at numbers 32 and read to his father, "Be sure your sins will find you out". Naturally, the father was disturbed and hid the book away. But curiosity later had him open the book himself, and found the same passage. with chagrin, he tried again and opened to the New Testament where he found a message that gave him a desire to attend the Missioh School and later do mission work in the streets. Rev. Linstead gave the adults many illustrations to prove that our attitudes and response to life frequently depends upon our viewpoint. Mr. Dale Young and Miss Carol Brown were guests on Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Greg St. John of Prince Albert. Mrs. Gerald Thompson of Barrie spent several days at the home of her sister, Mrs. Earl Reader.
