In Florida, all games were played in the Bay Front Centre, located in downtown St.Petersburg. Game one, on Monday, April 17, saw Badgerville, Saskatchewan versus Ux- bridge Black Hawks. The Badgerville team were the "E" Division Champions at the national tournament held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Black Hawks started very slowly and after eight minutes were down 2-0 before they started to find their legs. The boys thenw exploded for six straigh goals with Gary Geer scor- ing three," Wayne Redshaw with both teams evenly matched. Heading into the third period, it was a 1-1 tie with both goaltenders being standouts. Bud Lehman scored the lone Uxbridge goal when he took a neat pass from Jim Burnett. With eight minutes gone in the final period, Eugene More put Uxbridge ahead on a fine set-up by Jim Burnett. Cataraqui tied the score very quickly and it looked as if the game could go either way. Cataraqui scored with two minutes left to take the lead for the first time. With the clock showing one minute left, Hawk goalie Lajoie was lifted for an extra forward. This game as originally scheduled for Saturday, April 15, but due to a mix-up in P.E.L's travel arrangements, they did not arrive in St.Petersburg until Monday, April 17. So the game was played Wednes- day evening. Jones and the Black Hawks played two games that day. It was a great game with both teams giving 100 per cent as the loser would be eliminated from further play in the tournament. When the final buzzer sounded, Davey Jones defeated Uxbridge 4-3. Uxbridge goals were scored by Bud Lehman, Gary Geer and Wayne Redshaw. During their stay in Florida, the Hawks visited Disney World, Kapok Tree Inn, and took the Captain Anderson's dinner cruise. They played golf, went deep sea fishing, swam in the Gulf of Mexico, and ate at fine restaurants including the Coral Reef and the Brown Derby. The Black Hawks made a very respectable showing in the well-organized tourna- ment and enjoyed sight seeing in Florida. What a wonderful way to end the hockey season. It is interesting to note that the Cataraqui team won the "D" division championship. Five games without a loss made them most deserving of their victory. The average temperature in Florida during the Black Hawk's nine-day visit was 80 degrees F.
