Centre for the Blackstock Nursery - School Inc. Open House. Female winners out- numbered the men at the weekly Senior Citizen's Card Party with 16 tables taking part. The winners were: 1 - Verna Draper, 89; 2 - Maxine Brock, 86; 3 - Rhoda Larmer, 84; 4 - Bernice Gibson, 83; 5 - Bill Chapman, 83; 6 - Pearl Day, 82; and Edna Larmer, low. The Diet Club at the Rec. Centre on Wednesday night was entertained with Beth Schryburt's slides of the 1976 Arizona Trip. ' On Friday, Mrs. Jarosz, art teacher for Cartwright schools, accompanied forty- five of her students, all of the high school art students and several grade 8 art students to Toronto. Ruby VanCamp and "Scottie"" Barton also attended the bus trip. While on Dundas Street the stu- dents had two and a half hours to visit three or more art galleries writing down the names of up to ten artist displaying work in each gallery, then single out two of the artists to expand upon. The second assignment was to sketch one of the fronts of the many buildings along Dundas Street. After a quick meal at the new McDonalds in Toronto the group pro- ceeded to the Ontario College of Art, staging a two day Open House; where the high school students were given a conducted tour. Everyone browsed through many shops displaying a fine cross section of art work. The students were astonished to find an 18" x 12" painting by alittle known artist priced at $10,000.!!} } On Tuesday evening there were 27 Beavers invested at the Rec. Centre. Congratu- - lations to Mrs. Bob (Joane) Swain on a busy year with the Beavers. ' On Saturday evening sev- --eral in the community danc- ed to the music of the Joey Van Quartette at the O.N.O. Spring Thaw Dance. Sunday at the Recreation- al Centre close to 200 viewed the slides of Blair Martyn's recent three month trip to South America on motor- cycle. Blair gave an inform- ative dialogue as the slides were shown and answered several questions at the end of the presentation when he invited everyone to help themselves to coffee or pop and cookies. On -his trip covering 18,000. miles many exotic foods were eaten such as - donkey, horse, llama, shark and possibly stomach, When asked how-he manag- ed to eat some of them he replied that each motorcycle had been packed with two bottles of catsup, but that WINTARIO TICKETS available at the Port Perry- Star really the foods weren't all that bad. Patti Bryans and Rick Alpe recently visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Alpe of Guelph and during their trip attended the wedding of Patti's friend Judy Febben to.Ron Peters in Fenwick near Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hodge enjoyed the company of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Krprowski of Scarborough on Sunday. A get well soon wish goes to Norma VanCamp from the community during her stay in the Port Perry hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asselstine spent the weekend visiting their sons in the Niagara region, Mr. and Mrs. Les Asselstine of Kitch- ener and Mr. and Mrs. Alan Asselstine of Guelph. The weekend before Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asselstine travelled to Wooller near Trenton to visit his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Webb and on to Ottawa to visit his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bryden Asselstine where they attended the wedding of his niece, Janis Asselstine to Bl ack S foc | | | by Bethany Schryburt 12 hour dance raises *950. Friday evening and Satur- day morning the Rec. Centre was the scene of -a fund raising Dance-a-thon, spon- sored by the Yearbook Staff of Cartwright High School. Thirty-one students after obtaining at least 10 sponsors .and a signed permission slip from their parents took part in the event. Ray Porill with the assistance of Keith Dal- ton supplied the music. Anne Kristensen, secretary of the Yearbook Staff kept a close eye on the entire event, touring several times on bicycle partly to stay awake.
