Kudos for students at Drama Night --By-Diane Lackie-- «--the--girl;~but not Without ~~ "Last week's Drama Night at Port Perry High School provided the enthusiastic and appreciative audience with one of the school's most exciting entertainments this ® year. The evening program was fast paced, varied, and showed off to best advantage the considerable talents of all the participants. The show opened with an original mime presentation in slow motion to the 2001 sound track by gifted student artists Leon Tapper, Peter wAlger, and Ed Canning. This crowd pleaser set the calibre for the program. A second mime, circus-aimed, came later in the show and gener- ated much laughter as Leon literally "darted" about the stage. The evening's first one-act play, Reunion on Gallows 4Hill, bewitched the audience as Jenifer Carriere and Lisa Berry led the cast (Ayer, Doupe, Foster, Harrison, Lajoie, O'Reilly, C. Taylor, L. Taylor and Worr) through a stylized, chilling experi- ence in Salem witchcraft and its end results. The ensemble playing by the wit- ches and the special lighting effects by hard-working Rob Allen were most notable. All » Was under the direction of teacher Diane Lackie. The evening then took a lighter turn with Chekhov's classic comedy A Marriage Proposal, admirably acted by father Bruce Andor, daughter Laura Sanderson, AGERE ARE difficulty). Teacher David Sims exacted torthy per- formances from all his cast both in this play and in the closing offering, fast-paced, fiery Sunday Costs Five. Pesos. This Mexican play, dealing mainly with traditional male-female-female con- flict, closed with a splendidly choreographed street fight between the Celestina (Geor- gina Kemp) and her worthy adversary enacted by a bat- tered Lisa Barry. Both performances will be long remembered. Margaret Brawn as Berta did get to keep her man, beleagured Peter Alger, while Julia Goss cringed convincingly in the archways.
