H. Cornish Public School. Practices began in early September with primary, junior and intermediate girls working out on Mon- day and Friday mornings at 8:00. In February preparation started for upcoming com- petitions in April and May. April 2, R. H. Cornish held our own school meet for compulsory routines. Forty girls took part in junior (K-6) and intermedi- ate (7-9) routines designed. by our Durham Athletic Association. The top twelve from our school were: Jr. - Lyn Bradbury, Sherri Fras- er, Heather Murray, Sophia Brendon, Gianna Raffin and Jackie Abraham. Sr. - Lyn- ette Jackson, Lyn Notting- ham, Lori Van Kuik, Tracy Hoare, Jackie Lawrence, Heather McDougall. These 12 girls entered a meet at Thorah Central. We were pleased to see our senior group place 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th in our Central region. Lori Van Kuik, Lynette Jackson and Heather McDougall were sent to the Durham Region finals where Lynette Jack- son received a trophy for being one of the six best in all of Durham. We were very proud of her. On May 2nd, we held an Invitational meet at our school with Joseph Gould and Cartwright Central as guests. Floor routines, balance beam routines and vault were judged. All three schools did very well and should be commended for their hard work pre- paring for the meet. Over 50 girls took part. R. H. Cornish would like to extend their appreciation to Chrystal Menzies, Gina Brinkman and Lynn Patter- son who judged for us. May 11th was our final presentation for the year. Girls and boys from all grade levels took part in a show for the parents. At this time we would like to thank the parents who have helped us throughout the year in various parts of our sports. program. - Support has been appreciated for the driving necessary to certain events. Mrs. K. Murray, Mrs. J. Jackman and Mrs. G. Lewis are especially thanked for their assistance in the girls program.
